Overview
The Jabsco 45490-1000 is a Y-valve that routes onboard waste flow between two discharge paths in a sanitation system, and it can also be used to switch between two bilge pickups with one pump. It comes fitted with 1-1/2 in (38 mm) ports and includes an extra 1 in (25 mm) straight inlet port, which helps when the boat uses a smaller discharge hose from a macerating toilet.
The body is polypropylene with stainless steel parts at key points, and the selector lever can be padlocked or sealed in either position when the system needs to stay in retention mode. The discharge ports rotate during installation, so hose runs can leave the valve in parallel, at 90 degrees, in opposite directions, or pointed up or down to suit the available space.
Key features
- Routes flow between two discharge paths in a waste system, with another onboard use in bilge systems that alternate between two pickups
- Supplied with 1-1/2 in (38 mm) fitted ports and an extra 1 in (25 mm) straight inlet port
- Polypropylene body with stainless steel parts that handle contact with waste chemicals and bilge water
- Selector lever can be padlocked or sealed in either position; lock is not included
- Discharge ports can be rotated for parallel, 90 degree, opposite-direction, up, or down hose routing without disassembly
- Optional shaft extension supports through-bulkhead mounting up to 1-3/4 in thick with only the handle exposed
- Self-cleaning diverter and top cover retained by three machine screws for easier service access
Compatibility and fit
This valve fits marine sanitation layouts that need to direct discharge to a holding tank, to an overboard discharge line where permitted, or from a holding tank toward a waste discharge pump or deck pump-out connection. The included 1 in straight inlet port is useful when the inlet side comes from a macerating toilet with a 1 in discharge connection, while the fitted 1-1/2 in ports cover the more common sanitation hose size.
Installation and access
The three mounting feet give a clear base for fastening the valve to a solid surface, and the rotating ports make it easier to work around tanks, bulkheads, and tight hose bends. Where access from the front of a locker or partition is limited, an optional shaft extension allows the valve body to sit behind a bulkhead up to 1-3/4 in thick with only the selector handle exposed.
For upkeep, the valve can be opened by removing three hex head machine screws and lifting off the top cover and diverter assembly. Periodic operation helps keep the sealing surfaces clear because the diverter cleans itself as it moves from one position to the other.
Use on board
It suits boats that need one selectable valve in the sanitation line instead of separate branch plumbing, especially where the system must be locked into holding tank mode. It also works in bilge layouts with two pickup points and one pump, which can reduce plumbing complexity in tight spaces.
