Overview
The MotorGuide 8M0092069 is a 2.4 GHz wireless foot pedal for Xi series electric steer trolling motors, including Xi3 and Xi5 models. The heel-toe steering layout lets you turn right with toe-down and left with heel-down, then stop the turn by letting the pedal return to the center detent. Steering range allows you to rotate the motor past 360 degrees in either direction, which is handy when you are lining up on structure or following a contour.
Speed is set with the dial on the pedal, with both momentary run and constant on/off control at the selected speed. The pedal runs on two AA alkaline batteries and syncs to the motor receiver, so it can be placed where your feet naturally land on a casting deck or bow platform without a cable run across the boat.
Key features
- 2.4 GHz wireless foot control for compatible MotorGuide Xi series motors (Xi3 and Xi5)
- Heel-toe steering with a center detent to stop turning without hunting for a switch
- Steering range that can rotate the motor past 360 degrees in either direction
- Speed control dial plus both momentary run and constant propeller on/off at the selected speed
- Anchor button control on motors with GPS installed, and it also functions as the pedal on/off control
- Receiver can sync up to 40 wireless controllers for multi-control setups
- Uses two AA alkaline batteries with a gasketed cover to help keep the battery compartment sealed
Compatibility and fit
This pedal is intended for MotorGuide Xi series motors that support wireless controllers. It is commonly used with Xi3 and Xi5 models and communicates through the motor’s receiver once it is synced, so there is no hardwired foot pedal connection to route through the deck. If your boat runs multiple wireless controls, the receiver can store many devices, which is useful when you want both a foot pedal and other controls on board.
Installation and setup
Syncing is done at power-up. After connecting the trolling motor to its power source, press and hold the propeller and anchor buttons on the pedal within ten seconds, then listen for the multi-tone beep that confirms the receiver learned the pedal. When activating more than one pedal, unplug the motor from power and plug it back in between each device activation.
Battery access is under the cover secured by two screws. Replace with two AA alkaline batteries in the correct polarity and make sure the rubber seal is seated before reinstalling the cover.
Use cases on board
This setup makes sense for anglers who want their trolling motor to respond while they are moving around the bow, working a rod locker, or landing a fish, since the pedal is not tied to a fixed cable location. It is also a good match for boats where keeping the deck clear matters, such as bass boats, multispecies rigs, and open-bow skiffs with a busy casting area.
Safety and compliance
Rotating propellers can cause serious injury or death. Never start or operate the trolling motor out of water.
When activating the trolling motor with the foot pedal, the motor can start at the last selected speed and course settings. Before pressing the pedal, hold on to a seat or handhold and advise passengers to do the same.
