Overview
The Raymarine A80542 is a wired passive speaker for adding remote VHF audio to a Raymarine Ray90 or Ray91 handset station. It is an unamplified 8 Ohm speaker with 5 W maximum audio output, made for lower-noise onboard spaces where spoken radio traffic needs to be heard clearly without adding an active speaker module.
This speaker suits helm-adjacent areas, pilot houses, salons, staterooms, navigation stations, and other protected locations where a remote handset station needs its own audio output. The housing is waterproof and compact, with a surface-mount format that can be fitted horizontally or vertically on a bulkhead or overhead panel.
The speaker includes a 2 m cable and connects into the Raymarine wired handset station audio path. When adding it as a separate accessory, check the handset station layout and required adaptor cable before installation so the speaker, handset base, and radio system are cabled correctly.
Key features
- Passive VHF speaker for Raymarine Ray90 and Ray91 wired handset station audio.
- 5 W maximum audio output with 8 Ohm impedance for the supported Raymarine VHF audio connection.
- Waterproof enclosure for use around marine interiors and sheltered communication stations.
- Surface-mount design allows horizontal or vertical installation on a bulkhead or overhead panel.
- 2 m speaker cable gives practical routing length for nearby handset station installations.
- Useful for quieter onboard areas where crew need to monitor VHF traffic away from the main radio position.
Installation and setup
Plan the mounting position so the speaker is close enough to the handset station connection point and easy to hear from the normal operating position. The surface-mount layout works well on flat bulkheads, console faces, overhead panels, and navigation areas, provided the cable path is protected from sharp bends, standing water, and service-access conflicts.
Because this is a passive speaker, it does not add its own amplifier or independent controls. Audio level and operation remain tied to the connected Raymarine VHF station, which keeps the installation simple but makes correct connection to the handset station audio output important.
Compatibility and fit
This speaker is intended for Raymarine Ray90 and Ray91 VHF systems using the wired handset station audio connection. It is a practical match for boats with a black-box VHF installation where the radio transceiver is hidden away and audio needs to be repeated at a second operating position.
The listed body size is 8.4 in x 8.4 in x 4.5 in, so confirm available panel space and rear clearance before cutting, drilling, or routing cable. The black finish and medium speaker format fit naturally with Raymarine communication stations and helm electronics.
Use on board
On cruising boats, fishing boats, and pilothouse vessels, this speaker helps keep VHF calls audible at the station where someone is actually standing watch. It is especially useful when the main transceiver is installed out of sight and the operator depends on a RayMic handset and a nearby speaker for day-to-day radio monitoring.
