Overview
The Raymarine A80543 is an active amplified speaker for Ray63, Ray73, Ray90, and Ray91 VHF radio systems. It adds a dedicated listening point where radio audio needs to cut through wind, engine noise, deck activity, or the general sound of a busy helm.
This is a 5 W, 1-way active VHF speaker with its own onboard audio amplifier. It connects to the nearest compatible wired or wireless handset base, making it useful for flybridges, open cockpits, express cruisers, and below-deck stations where the main radio audio may be too far away or too quiet.
The housing is compact and waterproof, and it can be mounted vertically or horizontally on a bulkhead or overhead panel. A fitted 2 m power cable is included on the active speaker, helping keep the installation clean when the speaker is placed close to the handset base.
Key features
- Active amplified speaker for Raymarine Ray63, Ray73, Ray90, and Ray91 VHF radio installations
- 5 W audio output helps VHF calls stay easier to hear in wind, engine noise, or open-deck conditions
- Onboard amplifier supports clearer communication from a remote helm, flybridge, cockpit, or below-deck station
- Waterproof housing suits exposed marine locations where spray and washdowns are part of normal use
- Mounts vertically or horizontally on a bulkhead or overhead surface for flexible placement on board
- Connects directly to the nearest compatible wired or wireless handset base
- Fitted 2 m power cable supports a tidy installation near the handset base
Installation and setup
Plan the mounting location around both audibility and cable routing. The speaker should be close enough to the listening position to be heard clearly, while still allowing a practical run back to the compatible handset base and power connection.
Because it can mount on either a vertical or horizontal surface, it works well on a helm bulkhead, under an overhead console, inside a pilothouse, or near a secondary control station. Leave enough clearance behind the panel for the cable and avoid placing the speaker where gear, covers, or passengers will block the sound.
Compatibility and fit
This speaker is intended for use with Raymarine Ray63, Ray73, Ray90, and Ray91 VHF radio systems. It is a communication speaker, not a general stereo speaker, so its role is to improve VHF listening at a specific station on the boat.
It is a good match for boats with more than one operating position, including cruisers with a flybridge, center consoles with exposed helm areas, and vessels where VHF audio needs to be heard away from the main radio body.
Use on board
During coastal cruising, fishing, docking, or watchkeeping, a separate active speaker can make a real difference when radio traffic matters. It gives the crew another clear audio point for weather updates, marina calls, bridge communications, and safety traffic without relying only on the radio's built-in speaker location.
