Overview
The Attwood Marine Snap-Handle Drain Plug is a locking drain plug for 1" diameter drain openings on boats. It uses a rubber plug body with a snap handle that tightens with a clockwise turn, then folds down to help keep the plug locked in the drain tube.
This style is commonly used where a removable drain plug is needed for bilge, transom, livewell, or general onboard drain openings that match the 1" size. The handle gives a clear grip point when installing or removing the plug, which is useful when the drain area is wet, low in the boat, or hard to reach.
The range is offered with either a stainless steel handle or a brass handle, and both versions are supplied without a chain. The main fit check is the drain opening size: this plug is made for 1" diameter drains.
Key features
- Fits 1" diameter drain openings, making it suitable for many standard boat drain tubes.
- Clockwise tightening action expands the rubber plug in the drain for a secure hold.
- Snap handle folds down after tightening to help reduce accidental loosening underway or at the dock.
- Lift-and-turn removal keeps draining simple when the boat is back on the trailer or when the plug needs to be inspected.
- Available with stainless steel or brass handle construction to match the preferred hardware style on board.
- Supplied without a chain for installations where a tether is not needed or is handled separately.
Variants
This Attwood Marine drain plug is offered in two handle material configurations for the same 1" drain application.
The drain size, snap-handle operation, rubber plug style, and no-chain configuration remain consistent across the listed variants. The visible hardware material is the key difference between the versions.
- 7520A3: Stainless steel handle. This version suits boaters who want a clean stainless hardware look around the transom, bilge, or cockpit drain area.
- 7524A7: Brass handle. This version gives the plug a traditional brass hardware appearance while keeping the same snap-handle operation.
Installation and use
Insert the plug into a clean 1" drain opening, turn the handle clockwise until the rubber body grips inside the tube, then snap the handle down to lock it in place. To remove it, lift the handle and turn it counter-clockwise until the plug releases.
Before launching, check that the plug is fully seated and the handle is locked down. After use in saltwater, rinse the plug and drain area with fresh water and inspect the rubber body for wear, cracking, or compression before the next trip.
Compatibility and fit
This plug is for 1" diameter drains. It is a practical replacement or spare for boats that use a removable snap-handle plug rather than a threaded garboard-style plug. It is a good match for owners who want a simple mechanical drain plug that can be installed by hand without tools.
