Overview
The Simrad 000-10438-001 is an Ethernet adapter lead with an RJ45 male plug on one end and a yellow 5-pin female connector on the other. It is 0.2 m (8 in) long, so it is meant to sit right behind a display, module, or network junction where you need to bridge between RJ45-based Ethernet and the yellow 5-pin style used on many Simrad and Navico networking cables.
This is a simple physical connector adapter for marine Ethernet networking. It is commonly used during refits and expansions when the boat is already wired with yellow Ethernet but a newer device or cable run terminates in RJ45.
Key features
- Straight adapter lead: RJ45 male to yellow 5-pin female Ethernet connector
- 0.2 m (8 in) length for clean connections directly behind electronics
- Bridges standard RJ45 Ethernet connections to installations that use yellow 5-pin Ethernet cabling
- No configuration required; it is a connector adapter for compatible network equipment
- Helps reduce strain at the device port when space is tight behind the helm
Installation and setup
Use it as a short converter at the device end, then route and support the rest of the network cabling so the connector is not carrying the weight of the run. Leave service slack so the unit can be pulled forward without tugging on the port.
RJ45 plugs are not happy in wet, salty spaces. If the connection point is near washdowns or spray, keep the joint inside a dry electronics box or a protected enclosure and avoid leaving an open RJ45 connection exposed.
Compatibility and fit
This adapter is for Ethernet networking, not NMEA 2000. Confirm you have the yellow 5-pin Ethernet connector on your existing network cable and an RJ45 Ethernet connection on the device or cable you are adapting, since the yellow 5-pin style does not mate with standard RJ45 hardware.
Use on board
A good match for helm upgrades where a new chartplotter, sonar module, or network accessory needs to join an existing yellow-Ethernet backbone, or when you need a short adapter lead to keep a crowded electronics bay tidy and serviceable.
