Overview
The Garmin K00-00494-01 is a quarter-turn locking collar that lets you route compatible Garmin cables through tight spaces and add the collar after the connector is already behind the panel.
It is especially useful when a newer Garmin cable arrives without the collar pre-installed, or when a collar went missing during a refit. Because the collar comes as a two-piece design, you can avoid drilling oversized holes just to pass a fixed connector through a bulkhead or behind cabinetry.
Key features
- Two-piece collar installs around the connector after the cable is routed
- Helps avoid large cutouts when feeding connectors behind the dash or through cabinetry
- Quarter-turn locking action secures the connection on compatible Garmin ports
- Useful replacement when a locking collar is missing or was not installed on the cable
Compatibility and fit
This collar is for Garmin connections that use a quarter-turn locking collar system. If your connection uses a threaded ring or another retaining method, this part will not seat or lock correctly.
When replacing a missing collar, compare the connector style on both the device and cable so you do not reopen the helm twice.
Installation and setup
Route the connector through your pass-through first, then place the two collar halves around the connector and close them together. After the connector is plugged into the device, rotate the collar a quarter turn to lock it.
Support the cable so the connector is not carrying weight or getting pulled as the boat moves. Leaving a small service loop behind the dash makes service work and winter layup much less frustrating.
Use cases on board
This part makes the most sense on helm refits where access is tight and cable runs have to snake through cabinetry without enlarging existing holes. It is also a smart spare for anyone who regularly disconnects electronics for troubleshooting and wants a quick way to replace a misplaced collar.
Maintenance and care
If the collar is exposed to salt spray, rinse with fresh water and let it dry before reconnecting. Any time the connector is unplugged and re-seated, confirm the collar is fully engaged so vibration does not work the connection loose over time.
