Overview
The Garmin 010-12824-01 is a 1.2 m VHF interconnect cable used to connect a VHF radio to a Garmin AIS 800 Blackbox Transceiver for an antenna-sharing setup. It links the AIS 800 VHF RADIO port to the VHF radio antenna port so both devices can work from the same VHF antenna through the AIS 800 internal splitter.
This is a practical add-on when you are adding AIS 800 to an existing VHF installation and want to avoid mounting a second antenna. In normal use, AIS reception pauses while the VHF radio is transmitting on the shared antenna.
Key features
- 1.2 m cable length to bridge the run between an AIS 800 mounting location and a nearby VHF radio.
- Supports antenna-sharing between a VHF radio and an AIS 800 by connecting the AIS 800 VHF RADIO port to the radio antenna port.
- Keeps the RF path tidy when the AIS transceiver and VHF are installed in the same console, nav station, or electronics locker.
- Helps avoid extra antenna hardware when the AIS 800 internal splitter is being used for a single-antenna arrangement.
Compatibility and fit
Intended for use with the Garmin AIS 800 Blackbox Transceiver in installations where a VHF radio and AIS 800 are sharing one VHF antenna through the AIS 800. The VHF radio must have a standard antenna connection point to accept the interconnect between the radio and the AIS 800 VHF RADIO port.
Installation and setup
Plan the cable route so it is supported and protected from chafe, especially behind the helm where vibration is constant. Avoid sharp bends and tight tie-wraps that can deform coax. Keep RF connectors clean and dry, and secure the cable so the connector ends are not carrying the weight of the run.
For best results, route the cable away from high-current power runs and ignition wiring where practical, and leave enough service loop to access the AIS 800 and radio connections for troubleshooting.
Use cases on board
This cable is a good match for boats upgrading to AIS 800 where the VHF antenna is already well placed and you want AIS and VHF to share that antenna rather than adding a second masthead or rail mount. It is also useful on tight console layouts where keeping coax runs short and organized matters.
