Overview
The Victron Energy SmartSolar MPPT 100/30 & 100/50 is a Bluetooth-enabled MPPT solar charge controller range for 12 V and 24 V battery systems on boats, vans, and off-grid installations. Both versions accept up to 100 V PV open circuit voltage and use fast maximum power point tracking to keep solar yield steady when light changes across the deck, cabin top, hardtop, or arch.
This range suits marine solar installs where panel output can shift during the day because of sails, rigging, antennas, railings, clouds, or moving shadows. The 100/30 version supplies up to 30 A charge current, while the 100/50 version supplies up to 50 A, giving installers a clear way to match the controller to the array size and battery bank.
Built-in Bluetooth works with the VictronConnect app for setup, live monitoring, firmware updates, and charging profile changes from a phone or tablet. A VE.Direct port is also included for wired integration with compatible Victron GX devices, PCs, or other system monitoring hardware.
Key features
- MPPT solar charging for 12 V and 24 V battery banks with automatic battery voltage selection.
- 100 V maximum PV open circuit voltage across both variants for flexible solar array planning.
- Rated charge current options of 30 A or 50 A, depending on the model selected.
- Nominal PV input support up to 440 W at 12 V or 880 W at 24 V on the 100/30 model, and up to 700 W at 12 V or 1400 W at 24 V on the 100/50 model.
- Maximum efficiency of 98 percent with natural cooling and no cooling fan.
- Bluetooth built in for setup, monitoring, updates, and charge controller synchronization through VictronConnect.
- VE.Direct port for wired data connection to compatible Victron GX monitoring systems and other supported devices.
- Programmable multi-stage adaptive charge algorithm, with eight pre-programmed settings available by rotary switch.
- Protection against PV reverse polarity, PV reverse current, output short circuit, and high temperature conditions.
- IP43 protection for the electronic components and IP22 protection at the connection area.
Variants
This product is offered in two charge-current configurations within the SmartSolar MPPT 100 V range.
The main difference is output capacity. The 100/30 model is the lower-current option for smaller solar arrays and battery banks, while the 100/50 model handles larger PV input and higher charging current. Both variants share 12/24 V automatic battery voltage selection, 100 V maximum PV open circuit voltage, Bluetooth, and VE.Direct connectivity.
- SCC110030210: Model MPPT 100/30. This version supplies up to 30 A charge current and is rated for nominal PV power up to 440 W on 12 V systems or 880 W on 24 V systems.
- SCC110050210: Model MPPT 100/50. This version supplies up to 50 A charge current and is rated for nominal PV power up to 700 W on 12 V systems or 1400 W on 24 V systems.
Installation and setup
For a boat installation, the controller should be mounted in a protected, ventilated location close enough to the battery bank to keep cable runs sensible and voltage drop under control. The connection area is IP22, so it belongs away from direct spray, bilge splash, and places where wet gear can drip onto the terminals.
The unit uses 16 mm² or AWG6 power terminals, which gives installers room for appropriately sized DC cabling. The PV voltage must rise above the battery voltage before charging starts, so solar array design should be checked carefully against battery voltage, cold-weather open circuit voltage, and the 100 V input limit.
Electrical and system integration
Bluetooth setup makes this controller practical for refits where access to the electrical locker is awkward after installation. From the app, the user can check charging status, review history, change battery settings, and monitor solar performance without opening panels or lockers at anchor.
For larger Victron-based electrical systems, the VE.Direct port allows the solar charger to feed data into a GX device and remote monitoring setup. That is useful on cruising boats, fishing boats, and liveaboard systems where solar charging is part of a broader DC power plan with battery monitoring, inverter charging, and shore power management.
Marine use cases
This SmartSolar range is a good match for vessels adding solar to maintain house batteries, support refrigeration and electronics at anchor, or reduce generator and shore power use during coastal cruising. The MPPT tracking is especially useful when panels are mounted in areas where shade moves across the array during normal boat use.
