Overview
The Perko Alpha Series is a replacement pole light with white all-round output for sail or power driven vessels under 20 m (65.6 ft.) in length. It is a 12V incandescent plug-in light with an included bulb, USCG 2 nm certification, 11 watt rating, .94 amp draw, and a white translucent globe for 360 degree visibility.
This light is built for boats that already use a removable 2-pin all-round light base and need a replacement pole that can adapt to common base layouts. The retail configuration uses an adjustable pole rake, one locking collar, one threaded collar, and two screw positions, which helps it fit Perko 1045, 1046, 1047, 1048, 1059 and 1060 bases as well as many other manufacturers' bases.
The black polymer top, white translucent globe, gold-plated contacts, and 3/4 inch anodized aluminum tube make it a practical replacement for cockpit, stern, and other approved all-round light locations where a removable pole light is used.
Key features
- USCG 2 nm certified for use on sail or power driven vessels under 20 m (65.6 ft.) in length.
- 12V incandescent setup with included 11 watt bulb and .94 amp draw.
- White translucent globe gives 360 degree all-round visibility and adds limited cockpit illumination.
- Adjustable pole rake helps align the light head with the vessel's existing base angle.
- Includes both locking and threaded collar styles for wider 2-pin base compatibility.
- Locking collar fits Perko 1045, 1046, 1047, 1059 and 1060 bases; threaded collar fits Perko 1048 bases.
- 3/4 inch anodized aluminum tube with black polymer top and gold-plated contacts.
- Stow-A-Way plug-in format lets the pole be removed from the base when the boat is stored, trailered, or covered.
Variants
This range varies by pole length only, with approximate lengths of 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, 54 and 60 inches across the listed configurations. The light head, white translucent globe, 12V bulb format, adjustable pole rake, collar set, and 2-pin plug-in base approach remain consistent across the 1400DP retail variants.
The correct pole length depends on where the base is mounted and how high the all-round light needs to sit above surrounding gear, canvas, passengers, or the engine cowling so the light is not blocked in normal operation.
Compatibility and fit
This is a replacement pole light for removable plug-in installations, not a complete fixed-mount navigation light assembly. It works with compatible 2-pin bases, and the base is sold separately. Before ordering, compare the existing base style, collar type, pole diameter, and the height needed to keep the white all-round light visible from every required direction.
The supplied collar options are useful when replacing an older pole light on a fishing boat, runabout, cruiser, or sailboat where the base is still serviceable but the pole, globe, or contacts need to be replaced.
Installation and setup
Install the pole into a clean, compatible 2-pin base and confirm that the contacts seat firmly. Set the pole rake so the globe sits upright when the boat is at rest, then check that canvas, T-tops, rails, outboards, antenna mounts, and passengers do not block the light.
Because this is a navigation light, the installation should follow the vessel's wiring layout and applicable lighting requirements. Confirm the 12V supply, inspect the fuse or breaker, and test the light at the dock before relying on it underway.
Materials and care
The anodized aluminum tube, black polymer top, white translucent globe, and gold-plated contacts are suited to normal marine exposure, but removable pole lights still benefit from simple care. Rinse salt away after use, keep the base socket covered when the pole is removed, and avoid storing the light where the globe can be scratched or crushed.
For seasonal maintenance, inspect the bulb, globe, contacts, and collar threads or locking surfaces. A clean contact point and a firmly seated pole help prevent intermittent light operation caused by vibration, corrosion, or loose fit.
