Overview
The Blue Sea Systems Traditional Metal AC Main Breaker Panel is a 230V AC European distribution panel for boats that need a main AC breaker, branch circuit control, and live electrical monitoring in one panel.
It combines a double-pole 16A AC main breaker, multiple single-pole 8A branch breaker positions, and an AC Digital Multi-Function Meter with Alarm. The meter displays AC current from 0 to 150A, voltage from 80 to 270V, power from 0 to 35kW, and frequency from 40 to 90Hz, helping the operator keep an eye on shore power, generator output, or inverter-fed AC loads.
The panel is pre-wired with hot, neutral, and safety ground buses, which helps reduce layout work during installation. Backlit circuit label positions, ON indicating LEDs, and a red reverse polarity LED make the panel easier to read at the dock, underway, or in a dim cabin.
Key features
- 230V AC European panel format for onboard AC distribution systems.
- Integrated AC Digital Multi-Function Meter with Alarm shows current, voltage, power, and frequency.
- Audio and visual alarms for high voltage, low voltage, and high current conditions.
- Red reverse polarity indicating LED helps flag an unsafe shore power connection before loads are used.
- Hot, neutral, and safety ground buses are installed and pre-wired for a cleaner panel installation.
- Backlit circuit label positions help identify circuits in low light without adding a separate backlight kit.
- ON indicating LEDs are installed in the circuit positions for quick load status checks.
- Supplied in 3, 8, and 11 position versions to match different AC load counts and helm or cabin panel spaces.
Variants
This panel range is offered in multiple configurations based on the number of AC branch circuit positions.
Across the range, the 230V AC European configuration, AC main breaker, digital multi-function meter, reverse polarity indication, pre-wired buses, backlit labels, and ON indicating LEDs remain consistent. The position count, installed branch breaker quantity, panel dimensions, and weight vary by model.
- 8505: 3 positions. This version uses a 7.50 in by 5.25 in panel and weighs 2.94 lb, keeping the footprint small for a compact AC load group.
- 8506: 8 positions. This version uses a 11.25 in by 5.25 in panel and weighs 3.18 lb, giving more branch circuit capacity while staying in a narrow vertical layout.
- 8507: 11 positions. This version uses a 7.50 in by 10.50 in panel and weighs 4.78 lb, giving the highest circuit count in a wider panel format.
Installation and setup
This panel belongs in a protected AC distribution location where the operator can read the meter and reach the breakers without opening a service space. Common locations include the main electrical panel area near the nav station, cabin entry, or a dedicated AC distribution cabinet.
Because the panel handles 230V AC shore, generator, or inverter power, installation should follow marine AC wiring practice and be carried out by a qualified installer when required. The pre-wired buses and installed breakers help simplify the panel side of the job, but conductor sizing, overcurrent protection, grounding, strain relief, and enclosure protection still need to match the vessel.
Use on board
This panel is a practical fit for boats running several 230V AC loads such as battery chargers, outlets, water heaters, galley appliances, or air conditioning circuits. The meter gives a quick view of load and supply behavior, which is useful when managing limited shore power or checking generator output before bringing larger loads online.
The 3-position model suits a smaller AC system, while the 8-position and 11-position versions give more room for vessels with additional branch circuits. The reverse polarity light is especially useful around marina shore power, where confirming the incoming connection matters before powering onboard AC equipment.
