Overview
The Simrad 000-11229-001 is an external speaker for the RS90 modular VHF system, built to make radio calls, intercom audio, and onboard announcements easier to hear at a wired station. The housing is IPX7 (JIS-7) waterproof and the footprint is 110 x 110 x 45 mm, which keeps it tidy on a dash, bulkhead, or overhead panel.
It pairs one-to-one with an HS90 wired handset, with volume control and speaker on or off handled from that corresponding handset. An RS90 system supports up to four external speakers total, so you can bring clearer audio to multiple stations like the main helm, flybridge, cockpit, or a nav desk.
Key features
- External speaker for RS90 modular VHF systems
- One speaker can be added for each HS90 wired handset, with up to four speakers on a single RS90 system
- Volume and speaker enable are controlled from the corresponding handset
- IPX7 (JIS-7) waterproof rating for wet, exposed mounting locations
- Flush or surface mounting options to suit different panels and layouts
- Compact size: 110 x 110 x 45 mm
- Operating temperature range: -20 C to +55 C
Compatibility and fit
This speaker is meant for RS90 modular VHF installations that use HS90 wired handsets. It is not a general-purpose audio speaker for a stereo system.
An RS90 setup can run up to six stations in total (four wired and two wireless). External speakers are used on the wired side, paired with HS90 handsets, to extend audibility where you need it on board.
Installation and setup
Mount it where you actually listen to the radio, such as near the helm seat, at a flybridge station, or under a hardtop where wind and engine noise can drown out audio. Flush mounting keeps it low-profile in a console, while surface mounting works well on flat panels and bulkheads.
Even with an IPX7 rating, good placement matters. Keep it out of constant direct spray when possible, route wiring away from sharp edges and high-heat areas, and leave enough slack so the handset station can be serviced later without stressing the cable.
Use on board
This speaker is a good match for boats that run the RS90 as an intercom and multi-station VHF, especially when a second station needs the same call clarity as the main helm. It also helps when multiple crew need to hear incoming traffic without crowding around a handset.
