Overview

The Garmin 010-12771-01 is a suction cup mount with a powered magnetic mount and a video-in port for select Garmin navigators. It uses a 0.67 in (17 mm) ball joint so you can set the screen angle where it is easy to read, and the magnetic mount keeps the navigator powered while it is docked.

The video input is there for camera viewing on supported devices, including the Garmin BC 35 when paired (camera sold separately). On a boat, this style of mount is most useful in an enclosed helm or cabin where you want a removable setup on glass or another smooth, flat surface.

Installation and setup

For best hold, mount it to clean, dry glass or a smooth, non-textured hard surface. Press the suction cup firmly, then lock it in place per the latch on the base. Once the cup is seated, set the viewing angle using the 17 mm ball joint so the display stays readable from your normal helm position.

If you are running power to the navigator through the mount, route the cable so it does not snag on wheel, throttle, or sliding window tracks. In a marine cabin, it helps to keep the mount out of direct spray and away from spots that stay wet from condensation.

Compatibility and fit

This is a suction cup solution for compatible Garmin in-vehicle navigators that use this style of powered magnetic mount. It is not a screw-down, permanent bracket, so it is a better match for skippers who want something removable, move the navigator between vehicles and boats, or only mount it when needed.

If you plan to use the video-in port, confirm your navigator supports camera viewing through this mount and that your camera system is compatible before routing wiring. The camera is not included.

Use on board

On a boat, this mount works well for a temporary navigator position at the helm on a windshield or side window, especially when you do not want holes in the dash. It can also be useful when you want a quick camera view on the navigator screen for stern awareness while docking or while backing a trailer at the ramp, as long as your device and camera setup support it.

Care and upkeep

Suction mounts hold best when the cup and mounting surface stay clean. If it starts to loosen, remove it, rinse any dust or salt film off the cup, dry everything, and reseat it. When the boat is stored in high heat or direct sun, taking the mount down between uses helps prevent the cup from hardening and losing grip.
