Overview

The Victron Energy Blue Smart IP22 is a dry-mount 24V battery charger range for boats and other mobile power systems that need shore-power charging from 120V AC. The range covers 8A, 12A, and 16A charging outputs, with single-bank models for one 24V battery bank and a 16A three-bank model for installations with multiple battery banks.

This charger is built around an adaptive 6-stage charge algorithm with test, bulk, absorption, recondition, float, and storage stages. It supports common battery types including AGM, gel, flooded lead-acid, and LiFePO4 when the correct charge mode is selected. Bluetooth access through VictronConnect lets the installer or owner monitor voltage and current, adjust settings, review charge history, and update firmware without opening the electrical panel.

The IP22 enclosure is intended for protected dry locations, such as a cabin locker, electrical compartment, workshop area, or ventilated utility space away from spray and bilge moisture. The 24V models run from 100 to 130V AC at 45 to 65 Hz, reach up to 94% efficiency, and use an aluminium housing with screw terminals for the DC battery connection.

Variants

This product is offered in several 24V charging configurations. The main differences are output current and the number of battery banks the charger can serve.

The 8A, 12A, and 16A single-bank models are used where one 24V battery bank is being charged. The 16A three-bank version supports three outputs, which is useful on boats with separated 24V banks that need charging from one charger body.

• BPC240845102: 8 Amp, 1 Bank. This configuration is suited to a smaller 24V battery bank or a boat where the charger is used mainly for maintenance and recovery between trips.
• BPC241245102: 12 Amp, 1 Bank. This version gives a higher charge rate for a single 24V bank while keeping the same dry-mount IP22 charger format.
• BPC241647102: 16 Amp, 1 Bank. This is the highest-output single-bank option in the 24V range and fits installations where one 24V bank needs more charging current.
• BPC241648102: 16 Amp, 3 Bank. This model has three outputs for charging multiple 24V banks from one charger, useful where battery banks are kept electrically separated.

Installation and setup

Mount the charger vertically with the terminals facing down in a dry location with natural airflow. A minimum of 100 mm clearance above and below the unit helps cooling, and the charger should not be mounted directly above a battery, inside a sealed battery compartment, or where spray, dust, fuel vapors, or bilge moisture can reach it.

The DC side uses screw terminals for installer-supplied battery cabling. Cable size, overcurrent protection, and termination hardware should be matched to the charger model, cable length, and vessel wiring standards. For a clean onboard installation, keep the DC cable run short enough to control voltage drop and place the fuse or circuit breaker close to the battery or battery connection point.

Battery and system integration

For lead-acid batteries, the charger can use normal, high, and recondition settings depending on the battery type and service condition. For LiFePO4 batteries, the Li-ion mode changes the charge cycle to suit lithium chemistry, but the battery manufacturer requirements and any battery management system limits still need to be followed.

On a Victron-based electrical system, the charger can work with compatible VE.Smart Networking devices such as a Smart Battery Sense, SmartShunt, or BMV smart battery monitor. When configured, those devices can share battery voltage, temperature, and current information so charging is based on conditions at the battery rather than only at the charger terminals.

Use on board

This range fits boats with 24V house, start, thruster, or equipment banks that are charged from dockside AC power. It is a practical match for cruising boats, fishing boats, workboats, and refits where the charger will live in a protected electrical space rather than an exposed cockpit or engine-room washdown area.

The storage stage is useful when the vessel stays connected to shore power for longer periods, because it lowers the maintenance voltage after the battery has been fully charged. The built-in LEDs still give quick status at the charger, while Bluetooth monitoring makes routine checks easier from nearby without removing panels.
