Overview
The Victron Energy Smart IP43 Charger (3) 120-240V is a Bluetooth-enabled shore-power battery charger for boats that need three full-current charging outputs in a 12V or 24V DC system. It is part of the Smart IP43 range and is used to charge up to three battery banks from one onboard AC charger, such as house, bow thruster, windlass, or auxiliary banks.
These 120-240V models accept 85-250 VAC input, run at full power from 100 VAC, and use an adaptive 6-stage charge algorithm for lead-acid batteries, with a 3-stage profile for LiFePO4 batteries. Built-in Bluetooth allows setup and monitoring through VictronConnect, while VE.Direct supports wired integration with compatible Victron system equipment.
The (3) output layout means each battery connection can supply the full rated output current, but the total output across all three banks remains limited to the charger rating. This is useful on boats where battery banks are separated but still need managed charging from a single shore-power charger.
Key features
- Three full-current outputs for charging up to three battery banks from one charger location.
- 120-240V AC model with 85-250 VAC input range, full power from 100 VAC, and 45-65 Hz frequency support.
- Available in 12V and 24V versions, with charge current options matched to the vessel battery system.
- Built-in Bluetooth for setup, monitoring, control, updates, and synchronisation through VictronConnect.
- VE.Direct port for wired connection to a GX device such as Cerbo GX, a PC, or other compatible system equipment.
- Adaptive 6-stage charging for lead-acid batteries, with a 3-stage charge profile for LiFePO4 batteries.
- Programmable charge algorithm, remote on/off terminal, and programmable relay for more complete onboard power integration.
- Automatic voltage compensation helps offset voltage drop in the DC cabling as charge current increases.
- Aluminium enclosure with IP43 protection for the electronics and IP22 protection for the connection area.
- Can also be used as a power supply, with output voltage set through Bluetooth or VE.Direct.
Variants
This charger is offered in multiple configurations for 12V and 24V battery systems.
What changes between the configurations is battery voltage and rated charge current. Across these (3) output 120-240V models, the charger layout, Bluetooth connectivity, VE.Direct interface, programmable charge algorithm, IEC 320 C14 AC inlet, and three battery connections remain consistent.
- PSC123053095: 12V battery voltage with 30A charge current. This is the lower-current 12V option for three-bank installations where the vessel charging plan calls for 30A total charger capacity.
- PSC125053095: 12V battery voltage with 50A charge current. This is the higher-current 12V option in the range and fits 12V systems that need more charging output from the same three-bank format.
- PSC241653095: 24V battery voltage with 16A charge current. This configuration is for 24V onboard battery systems where a 16A charger rating matches the bank size and charging plan.
- PSC242553095: 24V battery voltage with 25A charge current. This is the higher-current 24V option for vessels using a 24V battery architecture with three separated charging outputs.
Installation and setup
The charger should be mounted in a protected onboard location with enough ventilation for natural convection cooling. Its IP43 electronics rating and IP22 connection area make it better suited to lockers, technical spaces, and machinery areas than exposed deck or washdown locations.
The DC battery connections use screw terminals up to 16 mm² or AWG6. The AC side uses an IEC 320 C14 inlet with retainer clip, and the AC cord is ordered separately, so the mains cord should match the vessel’s shore-power source and local plug type.
Electrical and system integration
Use the 12V models only on 12V battery systems and the 24V models only on 24V battery systems. Charge profiles and output settings can be adjusted through Bluetooth or VE.Direct, which helps when the installation includes different battery chemistries or needs a specific voltage and current setup.
For Victron-based systems, the charger can work with VE.Smart Networking for optional external battery voltage and temperature sensing from compatible devices such as Smart Battery Sense, SmartShunt, or a BMV-712 Smart Battery Monitor. Multiple Smart IP43 chargers can also be paired in a VE.Smart Network for synchronised charging.
Use cases on board
This charger makes sense for boats with multiple battery banks that need charging from shore power without adding separate chargers for each bank. Common installations include cruising boats with a house bank plus dedicated auxiliary banks, fishing boats with electronics and service loads, and refits where VictronConnect monitoring or GX system integration is part of the electrical upgrade.
The charger includes protection against battery reverse polarity, output short circuit, and over temperature. It is vibration tested to IEC68-2-6 from 10-150 Hz at 1.0G, which is relevant for marine installations where the charger may be mounted near engines, pumps, or other equipment that transfers vibration through the hull structure.
