Overview
The Attwood Marine 66502-1 is a retractable fender cleat built for securing fender lines while keeping deck hardware low when it is not in use. It measures 3-1/2 in. long, 1-3/16 in. wide, and has a maximum line opening of 3/4 in., so it is sized for dedicated fender duty rather than general docking loads.
The pull-up layout gives you a clean tie-off point when you need it and drops back to a lower profile afterward. In the closed position it sits about 9/16 in. above deck, rises to 1-3/8 in. when open, and uses enhanced cast 316 stainless steel for good resistance to saltwater exposure around gunwales, side decks, and other washdown-prone areas.
This is a practical choice for boats that spend time in slips, come alongside docks often, or keep fenders rigged and ready. It also works well where deck space is limited and a full-size fixed cleat would take up more room than necessary.
Key features
- Retractable pull-up cleat made specifically for fender lines
- Enhanced cast 316 stainless steel construction for marine environments
- 3/4 in. maximum line opening fits common fender line sizes
- 3-1/2 in. overall length and 1-3/16 in. width suit tighter mounting areas
- 1-7/8 in. install depth helps confirm clearance below the mounting surface
- 1-11/16 in. mounting hole distance gives a clear reference before drilling
- Low 9/16 in. closed height leaves less hardware standing proud on deck
Installation and fit
Before cutting or drilling, confirm that the mounting area has 1-7/8 in. of clear depth below the surface and that the 1-11/16 in. mounting hole distance matches your layout. The compact body makes it easier to place along a gunwale or deck edge where space is already shared with rub rails, trim, or other hardware.
Because this is a fender cleat, placement matters. It makes the most sense where crew can reach the line easily while coming alongside and where the pull-up body can move freely without interference from adjacent fittings.
Use on board
This cleat suits owners who want a dedicated tie point for fenders without leaving a taller fixed fitting in the walking area. It also pairs neatly with Attwood Neat Cleat hardware when matching deck hardware is part of the overall rigging plan.
