Overview
The Garmin 010-12528-00 is a 2 m (about 6 ft) marine network cable with Garmin small connectors for linking compatible devices on a Garmin high-speed marine network.
It is not a standard RJ45 Ethernet patch cable. This style of marine network cable is shielded, uses crossover wiring, and is IPX7 water resistant for routing through typical helm spaces where vibration, spray, and washdowns are normal.
Key features
- 2 m (about 6 ft) length for short network runs at the helm, inside a console, or between adjacent equipment locations
- Small connectors on both ends for Garmin marine networking ports that use the compact connector style
- Shielded cable with IPX7 water resistance for marine routing in areas exposed to moisture
- Crossover-wired Garmin marine network cable construction, so it is not interchangeable with standard Ethernet leads
- Can be extended by joining two small-connector marine network cables with a compatible cable coupler (sold separately)
Compatibility and fit
This cable mates only with Garmin marine networking ports that accept the small connector. If your equipment has the older, larger Marine Network connector, you will need the correct connector style throughout the run or an adapter between connector types.
Use it for networking between compatible Garmin marine electronics. It is not intended for general Ethernet connections to routers, PCs, or non-marine network hardware.
Installation and setup
Plan the cable path before pulling it through the boat. Leave room behind each device for the connector body and a gentle bend so the cable is not forced hard against a bulkhead or electronics box.
Support the run so it cannot chafe, keep connector ends out of standing water, and avoid bundling it tightly with high-current power wiring where possible. A simple drip loop helps when the cable drops down into a console or enclosure.
Use cases on board
A 2 m length fits cleanly when a display and a network accessory are in the same helm station, a T-top electronics box, or neighboring lockers, and you want to avoid storing extra slack. It suits boats adding one more network device while keeping the rigging tidy and easy to service later.
