Overview

The Garmin 010-02365-00 is a 7-inch touchscreen chartplotter with a 1024 x 600 WSVGA display and a worldwide basemap for general reference.

This is the GPSMAP 723 non-sonar model, so it handles charts, routing, and on-screen data, and it can be expanded with external sonar black boxes when you want CHIRP, ClearVü, or SideVü. It connects into a mixed helm easily using NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183, and it also has a Garmin Marine Network port for sharing data with compatible networked equipment.

Power is 10 to 32 Vdc for typical 12V and 24V systems. The housing is rated IPX7 for incidental immersion, and typical current draw is about 1.08 A at 12 Vdc with a 6 A fast-acting fuse. Two microSD card slots are located on the back of the unit for chart and data storage.

Installation and setup

The unit supports bail mount, flush mount, or flat mount, which makes it workable on everything from a small center console dash to a sailboat pedestal pod. If you are mounting near a magnetic compass, keep at least 35 cm (13.78 in.) of separation.

Because the microSD slots are on the back, plan access before you tighten the unit down, especially in tight helm consoles. Route cables so they are supported and not pulling on the connectors in rough water or when the dash flexes.

Electrical and system integration

This chartplotter is not powered through NMEA 2000, so it needs its own power connection even when it is on a NMEA 2000 backbone. On the network side, NMEA 2000 draw is up to 75 mA max.

For NMEA 0183 runs, shielded twisted-pair wiring is used for longer distances, and all connections should be sealed so moisture cannot wick into the conductors behind the dash.

Compatibility and fit

The GPSMAP 723 is a practical choice when you want a 7-inch plotter that can act as the hub for navigation, heading, wind, engine data, and targets from connected gear. Radar and external sonar modules can be added through compatible network connections, and video can be brought in through the composite input for a dock camera or engine-room view when the rest of the system supports it.

This setup makes sense for boats where the sounder is handled by a separate black box or where you are building a networked Garmin helm one piece at a time.
