Overview
The Victron Energy Lithium NG 12,8V Battery is a LiFePO4 battery range for 12V house banks and DC power systems where low weight, high usable capacity, and Victron system monitoring matter. The range covers 100 Ah, 150 Ah, 200 Ah, and 300 Ah capacities at 12.8 V, with nominal energy from 1280 Wh up to 3840 Wh depending on the selected model.
These batteries support series, parallel, and series-parallel layouts for 12V, 24V, or 48V battery banks when installed with the correct Victron NG BMS. The BMS is mandatory and purchased separately, and it handles monitoring, alarms, firmware updates, and system control through VictronConnect, a GX device, or VRM.
For boats, the Lithium NG 12,8V range is a strong fit for service banks powering navigation electronics, refrigeration, lighting, pumps, inverters, and other onboard loads. IP65 protection, M8 power connections, integrated cell balancing, and included bracket mounting help make the installation practical in the vibration, moisture, and access limits common on marine electrical systems.
Key features
- LiFePO4 chemistry with 12.8 V nominal voltage for modern 12V marine battery banks.
- Four capacity options: 100 Ah, 150 Ah, 200 Ah, and 300 Ah, with matching nominal energy ratings of 1280 Wh, 1920 Wh, 2560 Wh, and 3840 Wh.
- Can be wired in series, parallel, or series-parallel configurations for 12V, 24V, or 48V systems when installed within Victron NG system limits.
- Requires a compatible Victron NG BMS, sold separately, for battery protection, monitoring, alarms, and control.
- Integrated cell balancing and cell monitoring track cell voltages, temperatures, and battery current through the BMS.
- IP65 protection helps in lockers and technical spaces where dust, spray, or washdown moisture may be present.
- M8 threaded power inserts and bolts give a secure connection point for properly sized marine battery cabling.
- Battery BMS interface uses male and female M8 circular connectors with 50 cm cable length for daisy-chain communication.
- Mounting can be done with straps or included mounting brackets, and the battery may be placed upright or on its side, but not with the terminals facing down.
- Operating range is -20 °C to +50 °C for discharge and +5 °C to +50 °C for charging.
Variants
The Victron Energy Lithium NG 12,8V Battery is offered in multiple nominal capacity configurations so the battery bank can be matched to the vessel’s load profile, available installation space, and charging equipment.
The nominal voltage, chemistry, monitoring approach, IP65 protection, BMS requirement, and connection style remain consistent across these 12.8 V models. The main difference is capacity, which also changes nominal energy, maximum charge and discharge current, size, and weight.
- BAT512110620: 100 Ah nominal capacity. This version provides 1280 Wh of nominal energy and suits smaller 12V house banks or installations where space and weight need tighter control.
- BAT512115620: 150 Ah nominal capacity. This version provides 1920 Wh of nominal energy and gives more reserve capacity for boats running longer periods between charging cycles.
- BAT512120620: 200 Ah nominal capacity. This version provides 2560 Wh of nominal energy and works well for larger service banks that support refrigeration, electronics, lighting, and moderate inverter loads.
- BAT512130620: 300 Ah nominal capacity. This version provides 3840 Wh of nominal energy and is the highest-capacity 12.8 V option in this group for vessels with heavier DC demand or limited room for multiple batteries.
Installation and system integration
The battery should be installed as part of a complete Victron NG battery system, with a compatible BMS sized for the bank and connected before the battery is placed into service. The BMS manages protection behavior such as low-cell pre-alarm, load disconnect, charge stop, and temperature-related charge control.
Charging equipment, alternator charging, fusing, cabling, and inverter loads should be selected around the battery capacity and the final bank configuration. For marine installations, cable runs should be kept as short as practical, terminals should be protected against accidental contact, and the battery should be secured so it cannot shift while underway.
Marine use and fit
This range is well matched to cruisers, fishing boats, sailboats, and workboats moving from lead-acid service batteries to a lithium house bank with Victron monitoring. It is especially useful where the crew needs clear battery data at the helm, on a phone, or through a connected GX system.
The IP65 rating helps in protected onboard compartments, but the battery still belongs in a suitable battery space with ventilation, strain relief for cables, and protection from standing water. For best service life, keep the battery within its stated temperature limits and follow Victron NG BMS and charger settings during commissioning.
