Overview
The Raymarine E70096 is the EV-1 Sensor Core, a 9-axis heading and attitude sensor for Raymarine Evolution autopilot systems with traditional steering. It connects to the SeaTalkng backbone, runs on 12 V nominal power with a 10.8 to 15.6 V DC operating range, and draws 30 mA with a LEN of 1.
This unit tracks heading, pitch, roll, and yaw so the autopilot can react as the boat moves through changing sea states. The housing is sealed to IPX6 and IPX7, and it can be mounted above or below deck. For buyers checking installation space, the sensor body measures 140 mm in diameter, 35 mm deep with the mounting enclosure, and 95 mm deep when used with the wall bracket.
Key features
- 9-axis sensor package with a 3-axis accelerometer, 3-axis compass, and 3-axis gyro for heading and attitude data
- Course-keeping accuracy to within 2 degrees in all conditions
- SeaTalkng connection carries both power and data on the network backbone
- Built for traditional steering Evolution systems, including mechanical and hydraulic layouts
- Above-deck or below-deck mounting, with flat-surface and wall-bracket installation options
- Sealed housing rated IPX6 and IPX7, with an operating temperature range from -25 C to +55 C
Installation and setup
The EV-1 combines the heading sensor and autopilot processing functions in one housing, which keeps the installation simpler than older setups that relied on a separate fluxgate compass. It can be mounted horizontally on a flat surface or on the supplied bracket for a wall or other vertical surface.
During installation, the arrow on the front of the sensor needs to stay parallel with the vessel centerline and point toward the bow. The included 1 m SeaTalkng spur cable covers the local drop to the backbone, which helps when the sensor is being placed inside a console, under a deckhead, or on a bulkhead near the rest of the pilot network.
Compatibility and fit
This is the EV-1 version for Raymarine Evolution systems that use traditional steering. It fits best where the boat already has, or is being outfitted with, a SeaTalkng backbone, an Evolution control head, and the matching actuator control hardware.
The sensor can also be used on its own to feed compass heading data to a compatible Raymarine chartplotter or radar. It suits owners replacing an older heading sensor, building an Evolution pilot from components, or adding heading input for functions such as radar overlay and MARPA on a Raymarine display.
