Overview
The Garmin BlueChart g3 HD HXSA002R South America West Coast is an electronic chart region for compatible Garmin marine chartplotters, covering the west coast of Central and South America from Acapulco, Mexico to Tierra del Fuego and then north to Puerto Deseado, Argentina.
Coverage also includes the east coast of Panama and the Panama Canal, the Galapagos Islands, Lake Titicaca, the Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas), San Felix Island, and the San Fernandez Islands including Selkirk. It is offered as standard BlueChart g3 or the BlueChart g3 Vision version, and you can get it as a preprogrammed card or as a download.
Key features
- Region HXSA002R (BlueChart g3) and VSA002R (BlueChart g3 Vision) for South America, West Coast coverage.
- Chart content for navigation in the covered area, including depth contours, tidal stations, currents, and IALA aids to navigation.
- On compatible chartplotters, supports Auto Guidance route suggestions using your set depth and overhead clearance.
- Depth range shading support with up to 10 depth ranges on compatible units.
- High detail contours (up to 1 ft where available) and shallow water shading support on compatible units.
- BlueChart g3 Vision adds premium layers such as high-resolution relief shading, 3D chart views, and aerial photos where supported.
- Available as an SD card product (used directly in a chartplotter card slot) or as a download loaded via Garmin Express.
Variants
This chart region is available in multiple configurations, split by chart version (BlueChart g3 vs BlueChart g3 Vision) and delivery format (SD card vs download).
The chart coverage area is the same South America West Coast region, while the Vision version adds premium views and imagery features on supported chartplotters.
- 010-C1063-20: BlueChart Version BlueChart g3, Format SD Card. This is the plug-in option for chartplotters that read charts directly from an SD or microSD card slot.
- 010-D1030-00: BlueChart Version BlueChart g3, Format Download. This option is loaded with Garmin Express, then used from the card in your compatible chartplotter.
- 010-C1063-00: BlueChart Version BlueChart g3 Vision, Format SD Card. Vision adds premium map layers such as relief shading, 3D views, and aerial photos where your chartplotter supports them.
- 010-D1029-00: BlueChart Version BlueChart g3 Vision, Format Download. The Vision feature set is enabled after loading to a compatible card with Garmin Express and using it in a supported unit.
Compatibility and fit
This product is for Garmin marine chartplotters and sounders that support BlueChart g3 or BlueChart g3 Vision mapping and have a compatible card slot for the media you plan to use. Some newer units with built-in Garmin Navionics+ mapping cannot use BlueChart g3 supplemental mapping, so it is worth checking your exact model before purchase.
Vision-only features such as relief shading, 3D views, and aerial photos depend on the chartplotter model and the specific area of coverage, so the base navigation layers may be all you see on older or non-Vision-capable displays.
Installation and setup
For SD card versions, insert the card into the chartplotter with the unit powered off, then power up and select the chart layer on the chart screen. The chart draws from the card, so keeping the card in the unit is part of normal use.
For download versions, Garmin Express is used to download and write the chart to a compatible memory card from a computer. After loading, insert the card into the chartplotter to access the mapping on the water.
Use cases on board
This region makes sense for passagemaking and coastal cruising along the Pacific side of the Americas, as well as trips that include the Panama Canal or island navigation around the Galapagos. It is also a practical fit for skippers who want chartplotter-based depth contours and current information for route planning and fishing within the covered area.
