Overview
The Attwood Marine Trailer Bunk Padding is a charcoal polypropylene marine carpet roll made for covering boat trailer bunks and cradles. It helps reduce scratching and abrasion on the hull during loading, launching, and trailering, while giving the boat a smoother contact surface than bare wood or worn bunk carpet.
Each variant is supplied as a 12 ft long roll, with width options for different bunk board sizes. The material can be cut to fit the trailer, and the acrylic backing helps it grip the bunk surface during installation.
Key features
- Polypropylene marine carpet material with weather resistance for trailer use around ramps, washdowns, and outdoor storage.
- Charcoal color gives the bunk a clean look and helps hide normal ramp and road grime.
- Acrylic backing helps the padding grip trailer bunk boards or cradles before final fastening.
- 12 ft roll length works well for replacing worn bunk covering or trimming sections to match shorter bunks.
- Helps protect gelcoat, painted aluminum, and other hull surfaces from abrasion caused by rough or exposed bunk boards.
- Material is made with low water retention in mind, which is useful for trailers that are repeatedly dunked and then stored.
Variants
This bunk padding is offered in two width configurations. Both versions are 12 ft long rolls in charcoal polypropylene marine carpet material, with the width being the key difference for matching the trailer bunk or cradle surface.
The 8 inch version suits narrower bunk boards, while the 12 inch version gives more wrap and coverage on wider supports. Final fit depends on the bunk board width, the desired wrap around the sides, and how the padding will be stapled or fastened underneath.
- 11246-1: 8 inches wide. This width is useful for narrow trailer bunks where the carpet needs to cover the top and still wrap cleanly around the board edges.
- 11247-1: 12 inches wide. This wider option gives more material for broader bunks or cradles and can help when extra side coverage is needed during installation.
Installation and fit
Before installation, remove the old bunk covering and check the wood or support surface for rot, loose fasteners, or sharp edges. Cut the padding to length, pull it tight around the bunk, and fasten it on the underside so the hull rests on a smooth carpeted surface rather than on exposed staples or hardware.
The correct width should allow the padding to cover the contact face and wrap enough material around the sides for secure fastening. For trailers used in saltwater, rinsing the bunks after launch and retrieval helps remove salt and grit that can shorten the life of the padding and mark the hull.
Use cases on board
This padding is a practical match for trailerable fishing boats, runabouts, small cruisers, and other boats that rest on carpeted bunk supports. It is especially useful when old bunk carpet has become thin, torn, gritty, or loose enough to expose the hull to abrasion during ramp use.
Maintenance and care
After hauling the boat, rinse the bunks when possible and let the trailer drain before storage. Periodically check for worn spots, loose fasteners, sand buildup, or areas where the padding has shifted, since those small issues can affect how the boat loads and how well the hull is protected.
