Overview
The Garmin 010-02780-10 is a 6 ft open-array radar antenna that mounts to a Garmin GMR xHD3 pedestal. This is the rotating array only, so it is used when you need to replace the antenna on an existing xHD3 open-array radar rather than swap the whole scanner.
The array is 72 in (183 cm) long and measures about 1938 x 122 x 170 mm (76.5 x 4.8 x 6.7 in), so it needs clear space on a radar arch, hardtop, or mast for both the length and the sweep. Beam width is 1.1 degrees horizontal and 23 degrees vertical, and antenna weight is 7.7 kg (16.9 lb).
This makes sense for boats that already have a functioning xHD3 pedestal and want a straight replacement after impact damage, corrosion, or wear from years of vibration and spray.
Key features
- 6 ft (72 in / 183 cm) open-array antenna for Garmin GMR xHD3 open-array pedestals

- Beam width: 1.1 degrees horizontal, 23 degrees vertical
- Antenna gain: 29 dB
- Antenna weight: 7.7 kg (16.9 lb) for planning mount strength and lift during service
- Physical size for fit checks: about 1938 x 122 x 170 mm (76.5 x 4.8 x 6.7 in)
Compatibility and fit
This antenna is intended for Garmin GMR xHD3 open-array radar systems and bolts to the matching xHD3 pedestal. It is not a complete radar by itself, and it does not replace the need for the pedestal, radar electronics, and cabling that live in the scanner assembly.
Before ordering, confirm your existing radar family is GMR xHD3 and measure the available mounting footprint and rotation clearance. On sailboats, pay attention to shrouds, backstays, and halyards that can pass through the antenna sweep.
Installation and setup
Replacement is a mechanical swap on the pedestal: remove the existing array, transfer or reuse the mounting hardware as required, and secure the new array evenly so it sits flat and tracks straight. Plan for safe handling since the 6 ft array has enough length to catch wind on deck.
After the antenna is installed, check radar installation settings on the connected chartplotter and confirm the antenna size is set to 6 ft so the system uses the correct beam geometry for tuning and overlay.
Maintenance and care
Rinse the array after saltwater runs, especially around the rotary joint area, and keep the mount points clean so fasteners can be inspected without fighting corrosion. Periodically verify the array has full rotation clearance and that nothing on deck or aloft can snag it when the radar is operating.
