Overview
The B&G 213-00-002 is a masthead wind sensor that feeds wind speed and wind angle data into compatible B&G instrument systems. It uses pulse/analogue outputs and an IP66-rated housing for exposed mounting where spray, sun, and vibration are part of normal sailing life.
Install it at the top of the rig to supply raw wind data to B&G H5000 and H3000 setups for calculations, trim decisions, and performance functions. Since the output is raw pulse/analogue, it is intended for systems that accept this sensor type rather than a direct NMEA 2000 drop.
Key features
- Measures wind speed and wind angle at the masthead and sends raw data to your instrument processor.
- Pulse/analogue output format used with B&G H5000 and H3000 wind interfaces.
- IP66-rated body for masthead exposure, including spray and washdowns.
- Sealed electronics housing to help keep moisture out in wet sailing conditions.
- Fully field serviceable construction with replaceable bearings to keep the rotating parts running smoothly.
Compatibility and fit
This unit is meant for wired B&G wind systems that accept pulse wind speed and analogue wind angle signals. If you are replacing an older masthead sensor, confirm your existing wind interface or processor is set up for the 213-type wiring and connector style before you pull the mast or commit to new cabling.
Installation and setup
Mount the sensor where it can see clean airflow and stay clear of antennas, lights, and running rigging that can disturb wind flow. Route the mast cable with chafe protection, leave a drip loop where the cable exits the spar, and secure the run so it cannot slap inside the mast.
After installation, align the vane to the boat’s centerline and complete the wind angle calibration in the instrument system. A careful setup here pays off when you are steering to numbers in a breeze or trimming by apparent angle on an upwind leg.
Maintenance and care
Rinse with fresh water after saltwater sailing and keep the cups and vane free of salt buildup. If wind readings get inconsistent or the cups do not spin freely, inspect the rotating parts and service the bearings before chasing wiring or processor settings.
Use on board
This masthead unit is a good match for sailors maintaining a B&G H5000 or H3000 instrument package who want dependable wind data for cruising trim and racing tactics. It also fits well as a replacement when an existing 213-style sensor has worn bearings, damaged cups, or a bent vane from a hard season.
