Overview
The Garmin BlueChart g3 Vision HD VUS013R is a coastal electronic chart for Garmin chartplotters that covers Mobile, Alabama through Calcasieu Lake, Louisiana, including New Orleans, the Mississippi River Delta, Lake Pontchartrain, Lake Maurepas, and Vermilion Bay.
It adds chart layers that help with real-world decision making on the water, including depth range shading (up to 10 ranges) and bottom contours with detail down to 1 foot in supported areas. You also get high-resolution relief shading for reading bottom structure at a glance, high-resolution satellite imagery for recognizing ports and landmarks, and 3D MarinerEye and FishEye views on compatible displays.
Auto Guidance uses settings like preferred depth and vertical clearance to suggest a route for planning. The route suggestion is a planning aid and does not replace safe navigation practices at the helm.
Key features
- VUS013R coverage from Mobile, AL through Calcasieu Lake, LA, including New Orleans, the Mississippi River Delta, Lake Pontchartrain, Lake Maurepas, and Vermilion Bay
- Integrated Garmin and Navionics data for chart coverage and presentation
- Depth Range Shading with up to 10 depth ranges to highlight the water you care about
- Bottom contours with detail down to 1 foot in supported areas for clearer reading in swamps, canals, and marinas
- High-resolution relief shading that uses color and shadow to make bottom structure easier to interpret than contour lines alone
- Shallow water shading that can be set to a depth you want to avoid
- High-resolution satellite imagery overlays for ports, marinas, bridges, and navigation landmarks
- MarinerEye and FishEye 3D views for perspective above and below the waterline on supported chartplotters
Variants
This chart region is offered in more than one delivery format.
The coverage area and chart content are tied to the VUS013R region. The difference between options is how the chart is delivered and loaded for use on board.
- 010-C0714-00: Format SD Card. A preprogrammed microSD/SD card that is inserted into a compatible chartplotter card slot to access the chart.
- 010-D0473-00: Format Download. A download that is loaded onto an SD card using Garmin Express on a computer before installing the card in the chartplotter.
Compatibility and setup
This chart is made for compatible Garmin chartplotters that support BlueChart g3 Vision and have a microSD/SD card slot. Chart layers like relief shading, satellite imagery, and 3D views can depend on the chartplotter model and software, so it helps to keep the unit updated before heading offshore or into shallow backwaters.
If you use the downloadable format, plan on setting it up at home with a computer so the SD card is ready to go when you get to the boat. Once installed, you can select the chart layer, set depth shading ranges, and tune Auto Guidance settings to match your preferred depth and vertical clearance.
Coverage and use on board
VUS013R is a good fit for boats running the Gulf Coast stretch between Mobile and Lake Charles, including the approaches around New Orleans and the Mississippi River Delta. The 1-foot contour detail and depth shading features are especially useful when you are working through bays, marsh channels, canals, and marina entrances where small depth changes matter.
For anglers, relief shading and tighter contours help you read bottom shape faster when you are lining up on structure. For cruising and day runs, satellite imagery and 3D views can make it easier to recognize landmarks and line up on unfamiliar harbor entrances when your chartplotter supports those layers.
