Overview
The Simrad PRE120 is a 120 mm (4.8 in) pushrod extension used with Simrad tiller pilot autopilots, including TP10, TP22, and TP32. It adds length to the mechanical pushrod so the pilot can reach the tiller bracket when your mounting geometry needs a little more distance.
On a tiller-steered sailboat, small changes in spacing between the pilot base and the tiller pin can affect how smoothly the drive runs. This extension helps you fine-tune that spacing so the actuator can work through its normal stroke without being forced to operate at the very end of travel.
Key features
- 120 mm (4.8 in) extension length to increase tiller pilot pushrod reach
- Compatible with Simrad tiller pilots TP10, TP22, and TP32
- Helps match common tillerpilot mounting layouts when the standard pushrod length comes up short
- Mechanical add-on that installs in the pushrod linkage, with no changes to wiring or onboard electronics
Compatibility and fit
Confirm your autopilot is a Simrad tiller pilot model TP10, TP22, or TP32. Before installing, check the spacing between the pilot drive unit mounting point and the tiller bracket pin, and make sure adding 120 mm will still allow full movement to port and starboard without binding.
Also check cockpit clearance. The extra length can change where the pushrod travels, so verify it will not hit coamings, seats, locker lids, or safety lines when the pilot is steering through its range.
Installation and setup
This extension is used as part of the mechanical linkage between the tiller pilot and the tiller bracket. Install it according to your tiller pilot hardware layout, then cycle the pilot through its full travel at the dock to confirm smooth motion and clean alignment.
After installation, re-check your mounting geometry and steering response. If the pilot is working against an angle that is too sharp, repositioning the base or bracket usually improves control and reduces strain on the linkage.
Use cases on board
This part is a good match for owners of tiller-steered boats who are fitting a Simrad tiller pilot in a tight cockpit layout, or who need to shift the pilot mounting position to clear seating, lockers, or companionway traffic while keeping the drive geometry workable.
Maintenance and care
Rinse the linkage with fresh water after saltwater use and keep the connection points free of grit. Periodically inspect the pushrod path and mounting hardware for looseness or wear, especially if the boat sees frequent vibration or heavy weather loads.
