Overview
The B&G SEN-SPD-HPF is a flush-housed paddlewheel speed sensor with an integrated sea temperature sensor for B&G H3000 and H5000 systems, including installations that use a WTP3 interface. The plastic housing keeps the sensor low to the hull, and the assembly is listed at 138 mm overall with an 88 mm housing dimension.
It supplies boat speed and water temperature data that is commonly used for performance sailing numbers, calibration, and consistent readings under sail and power.
The housing includes a self-closing valve, so the sensor insert can be removed for cleaning and service with the boat in the water when you have access from inside the hull.
Key features
- Flush plastic housing that sits close to the hull to reduce protrusion
- Paddlewheel speed measurement with integrated sea temperature sensing
- Self-closing valve in the housing for removal and cleaning without opening the hull
- Intended for B&G H3000 and H5000 systems, including WTP3-based installations
- Listed dimensions: 138 mm overall and 88 mm housing
Compatibility and fit
This is a speed and temperature transducer only, not a depth sensor. It is meant for B&G installations that accept the H3000/H5000 style speed and temperature input, so it is worth confirming your processor or interface has the matching input and that your current hull hardware suits a flush-style housing before you commit.
Installation and setup
Plan the mounting location where the hull sees clean water flow and where you can comfortably reach the valve from inside the boat. Keeping it away from steps, strakes, intakes, and other fittings that aerate the water helps the paddlewheel read more consistently.
Once installed, most systems benefit from a quick calibration run to match speed readings to your hull and normal loading. In day-to-day use, a clean paddlewheel has more impact on accuracy than fine-tuning settings.
Maintenance and care
Check the paddlewheel regularly, especially in warm water or when the boat sits for long periods, and clean it when speed readings start to lag or jump around. A fresh-water rinse after hauling helps, and avoiding harsh solvents keeps the plastic housing and seals in better shape.
Who it suits on board
This sensor is a good match for sailboats set up for performance and cruisers that want repeatable boat speed and water temperature data on B&G H3000 or H5000 instrumentation, with a flush install that can be serviced from inside the hull.
