Overview
The Attwood Marine Turbo 4000 Series II is a 12V in-line bilge blower for moving air through boat ventilation ducting in engine compartments, bilges, galleys, and heads. This 4 inch blower fits 4 inch I.D. ventilation hose and uses an in-line housing that can be mounted vertically or horizontally where space is limited.
It uses a five-blade fan and a reworked housing that helps reduce distortion during installation, which matters in tight bilge and engine-room spaces where hose clamps and fasteners can put stress on the body. The blower is built for low current draw, with published specifications listing 12V operation and about 2.5 amps for the standard 1747-4 version.
Key features
- 12V in-line blower for boat bilge and compartment ventilation systems.
- 4 inch hose size for use with 4 inch I.D. marine ventilation ducting.
- Five-blade fan helps move air efficiently through short ventilation runs.
- Built-in mounting feet support vertical or horizontal installation in confined spaces.
- Tabs at the intake and exhaust help keep the hose and clamp seated during installation.
- Nickel-plated motor can helps resist corrosion inside the blower assembly.
- Stiffening ribs help the housing hold its shape when fastened in place.
- 16-gauge tinned and caulked copper wire leads support marine electrical installation.
- CE certified for use in marine ventilation applications.
Variants
This Turbo 4000 Series II blower is offered in two configurations that keep the same general 12V, 4 inch in-line format while changing the water-resistant option.
The main difference between the two versions is whether the blower includes water-resistant construction. The installation style, white housing, and 4 inch ventilation hose fitment remain consistent across the range.
- 1747-4: Water-resistant: No. This is the standard configuration for protected ventilation runs where the blower is not expected to see regular moisture exposure.
- 1749-4: Water-resistant: Yes. This version adds water-resistant protection for installations where incidental moisture is more likely around the blower location.
Installation and setup
The in-line body is suited to installations where air needs to be pulled through ducting rather than from a surface-mounted vent. Built-in feet let the blower sit securely on a bulkhead, stringer, or other suitable mounting surface, and the vertical or horizontal mounting option gives installers more freedom in cramped bilges and machinery spaces.
Use properly sized 4 inch ventilation hose and secure the hose at both ends of the blower. The intake and exhaust tabs help hold the hose and clamp in position, which is useful when working in areas with vibration, heat, and limited access.
Electrical and onboard use
This is a 12V blower, so it belongs on a 12V DC circuit with wiring, switching, and circuit protection sized for the vessel installation. It is commonly used to help clear fumes and stale air from engine compartments and bilge areas before starting the engine, as well as to improve air movement in enclosed utility spaces such as heads and galleys.
It is a practical match for small to mid-size powerboats, refits, and OEM-style replacement jobs where the boat already uses 4 inch ventilation ducting and an in-line blower layout.
