Overview
The Attwood Marine 11900-4 is a 12V, 1-bank battery maintenance charger that delivers a 1.5 amp maintenance charge for a single battery. It is a fully automatic onboard unit with LED status indicators, which makes it a practical choice for boats that sit between trips, stay on a trailer, or spend part of the season in storage.
Its water-resistant construction, reverse polarity protection, and short circuit protection make it better suited to protected onboard mounting locations than a basic indoor-only maintainer. This charger is built for charge maintenance rather than fast recovery charging, so it fits best when the battery is already serviceable and the goal is to keep it topped up and ready.
Key features
- 1.5 amp maintenance charge for a single 12V battery
- Fully automatic charging cycle for long-term battery upkeep
- 1-bank setup for straightforward use on boats with one battery to maintain
- Water-resistant housing for protected onboard mounting areas
- LED status indicators for quick charge-status checks
- Reverse polarity and short circuit protection during connection
Installation and fit
This charger is a good match for a boat with one 12V battery that needs steady maintenance charging, such as a starting battery on a runabout, a single battery on a small fishing boat, or a light house battery on a sailboat. The onboard format works well when you want the charger left in place instead of reconnecting a portable unit before every outing.
Plan to mount it in a protected location with access to AC power and a clean cable route to the battery posts. On open boats or in areas that see regular washdown, it still makes sense to place the unit where it is shielded from direct spray and standing water.
Electrical and system integration
This model is intended for 12V systems only and handles one bank. That matters on boats with separate starting and house banks, because it is not a replacement for a multi-bank charger when more than one battery needs to be maintained at the same time.
It suits owners who keep a battery connected during layup, between weekend trips, or while the boat stays at the dock with shore power available. For heavily discharged batteries or larger charging demands, a higher-output charger would usually be the better fit.
