Overview
The Hella Marine NaviLED Compact 2 NM towing navigation lamp is an LED towing light with an amber lens and a short 120 mm cable lead for sealed, low-profile installs on boats that tow. It is rated for 2 nautical miles visibility and runs on Multivolt 8-28V DC, so it suits common 12V and 24V onboard systems.
This is a fully sealed IP67 unit with a UV resistant acrylic lens and a high impact shroud, built for spray, washdowns, and vibration. Power draw stays under 2W, and the compact body measures about 53 x 71 x 33 mm, which helps when you are fitting it high on the transom or on a bracket above the stern light.
Key features
- 2 NM towing navigation light with amber lens for towing operations
- Multivolt 8-28V DC input for 12V and 24V systems
- Low power draw under 2W
- IP67 completely sealed housing for wet installations
- Voltage protection for spikes up to +500V and reverse polarity protection down to -700V
- Pre-wired with a 120 mm marine cable lead to keep the installation sealed at the lamp
- Compact footprint (about 53 x 71 x 33 mm) and light weight (about 60 g including cable)
Variants
This lamp is offered in two housing colors.
The shroud color changes between variants. The amber lens and 120 mm cable lead are the same across the options.
- 980520601: Color Black. This finish usually blends in on darker transoms and brackets.
- 980520611: Color White. This finish tends to match light gelcoat and white superstructure surfaces.
Installation and setup
Mount the shroud on a vertical surface with the markings on the top, and keep the lamp aimed so the beam is not blocked by rails, antennas, or towing gear. For towing configurations, the towing light is mounted in a vertical line above the stern light, and the direction arrow points right astern.
Because the cable lead is short, plan your junction point before drilling. Bring the cable into a dry area or a protected junction box, then make the splice with marine-grade sealed connections. Protect the circuit with a fuse rated at 3A maximum.
Compatibility and fit
This is a 2 NM towing navigation light intended for vessels that need a towing signal light and want an LED unit that fits tight mounting spots. The Multivolt 8-28V DC input works across typical charging voltages, including voltage dips and fluctuations that show up on smaller boats.
Check your required towing light placement and height rules for your jurisdiction and vessel class, then confirm you have a clear line of sight aft with no shadows from the tow post, davits, or cockpit canvas.
Maintenance and care
There are no bulbs to replace and the lamp is sealed. Rinse salt residue from the lens and housing during normal washdowns, and inspect the cable entry and any downstream splices for water intrusion.
LED output naturally reduces over time. For long-term compliance and visibility, replacement after 10,000 operating hours is recommended.
