Overview
The Attwood Marine Universal Fuel Tank & Hose Fittings is a range of replacement fuel system connectors for matching marine fuel tanks, hoses, elbows, anti-siphon valve locations, and in-line hose repair points. The range covers common small-boat fuel plumbing sizes, including 1/4 in. NPT, 1/4 in. NPTF, 3/8 in. NPT, 5/16 in. barb, 3/8 in. barb, and a 3/8 in. hose mender configuration.
These fittings are used where the fuel line needs a threaded tank connection, a hose barb transition, a 90-degree change in direction, an anti-siphon valve, or a splice for a 3/8 in. fuel hose. Depending on the configuration, the fitting is made from brass or aluminum, with the in-line splice kit using a brass mender and stainless steel clamps.
The fittings are suitable for leaded, unleaded, ethanol-blended, and alcohol-blended fuels. Threaded connections should be installed with thread sealant on the threads, and the final installation should be checked for fuel leaks before the boat is put back in service.
Key features
- Range includes a 90-degree elbow, hose-barb fittings, anti-siphon valves, and an in-line fuel splice kit for 3/8 in. hose repair.
- Connection options cover 1/4 in. NPT, 1/4 in. NPTF, 3/8 in. NPT, 5/16 in. barb, 3/8 in. barb, and 3/8 in. hose mender applications.
- Brass configurations are available for selected elbows, hose-barb fittings, and the in-line splice kit.
- Aluminum configurations are available for selected hose-barb fittings and anti-siphon valve fittings.
- Suitable for leaded, unleaded, ethanol-blended, and alcohol-blended fuels used in marine fuel systems.
- Threaded versions use male thread connections, with sealant required on the threads during installation.
Variants
This product family is offered in several configurations, with the main differences being fitting type, thread size, barb or mender size, and material. The range includes elbow, hose barb, anti-siphon valve, and in-line splice kit versions, so the correct option depends on the tank outlet, hose inside diameter, and whether the installation needs a straight connection, a 90-degree connection, a siphon-control valve, or a hose repair splice.
Across the range, the verified connection sizes include 1/4 in. NPT x 1/4 in. NPTF, 1/4 in. NPT x 5/16 in. barb, 1/4 in. NPT x 3/8 in. barb, 3/8 in. NPT x 3/8 in. barb, and 3/8 in. hose mender. Material varies by configuration, with brass and aluminum options available.
Installation and fit
Match the threaded side to the tank or fuel system port and match the barb or mender side to the fuel hose size. A 5/16 in. barb is not interchangeable with a 3/8 in. barb, and NPT thread size should be checked before installation rather than forced into an unmatched port.
For threaded fittings, apply a fuel-compatible thread sealant to the threads and tighten the fitting so it seats securely without over-stressing the tank fitting or adapter. Hose-barb connections should be secured with the proper fuel-line clamp for the hose type and installation location.
Use cases on board
These fittings are a practical match for maintenance work on small gasoline-powered boats, outboard fuel systems, portable or fixed tank connections, and dockside fuel line repairs where the existing hose or tank fitting size is already known. The anti-siphon valve options are used where the fuel system requires siphon control at the tank connection.
The in-line splice configuration is useful for repairing a damaged section of 3/8 in. fuel hose when replacing the full hose run is not practical at the time. After any fuel system work, the line should be inspected under normal operating conditions and any sign of seepage, odor, or soft hose should be addressed before use.
