Overview
The Simrad 000-15598-001 is an autopilot gateway that links a Yamaha Helm Master steer-by-wire system with a Simrad NAC-D autopilot computer so autopilot control is available on compatible Simrad multifunction displays.
At the helm, you run the pilot from Simrad NSS, NSO, or GO displays, with the familiar steering modes: Auto, Nav, NoDrift, and FollowUp.
This is the gateway module only. It is used alongside the rest of the autopilot system hardware to complete a working steer-by-wire installation.
Key features
- Supports autopilot control from Simrad NSS, NSO, and GO multifunction displays.
- Used in steer-by-wire installations built around the Simrad NAC-D autopilot computer.
- Autopilot modes available through the display: Auto, Nav, NoDrift, and FollowUp.
- Intended for Yamaha Helm Master steer-by-wire systems (not Helm Master EX).
- Keeps autopilot operation on the same screen used for charting, routes, and navigation data.
Compatibility and fit
This gateway is meant for boats with Yamaha Helm Master steer-by-wire steering and a Simrad autopilot setup that uses the NAC-D computer. Autopilot control is handled from Simrad NSS, NSO, and GO displays.
Fit comes down to the exact Yamaha steering version at the boat and the Simrad display family at the dash. Verifying those pieces up front avoids surprises when it is time to commission the pilot.
Installation and setup
Plan on mounting the gateway in a protected spot behind the helm where the Yamaha steering system wiring and the autopilot wiring meet. Secure the harness so it cannot chafe or shake loose from vibration, and leave enough service loop to access connectors later.
After installation, the pilot is operated and set up from the Simrad display, including the usual calibration and steering checks done during commissioning.
Use on board
Auto mode holds a heading for longer runs. Nav mode follows a route from the chartplotter. NoDrift helps keep a steady course when wind or current pushes the boat, and FollowUp gives small, controlled course changes from the display.
This gateway is a good match for Yamaha Helm Master boats that already run Simrad displays and want the pilot integrated into the helm workflow.
