Overview
The Simrad 000-10183-001 is a Follow Up autopilot remote with an integrated display, used to command rudder angle from a steering lever and see the commanded angle at a glance. The lever can be rotated 70 degrees to port or starboard from center, and the unit holds the commanded rudder angle until you set a new one.
The display is a monochrome 128 x 64 transflective screen, and the front of the unit corresponds to IPX6 for exposed mounting. It connects on the network for both power and data, which makes it a practical add-on when you want autopilot control at a second helm, flybridge, cockpit station, or a docking wing.
Key features
- Follow Up steering lever control with 70 degree travel to port or starboard from mid-position.
- Commanded rudder angle is shown on the integrated display and reflected by lever position.
- 128 x 64 monochrome, transflective display for readable feedback in changing light.
- Factory-connected 6 m Micro-C drop cable for CAN bus and NMEA 2000 network installations.
- Network power draw: LEN 1 (off) and LEN 3 (max illumination) for load planning on NMEA 2000.
- Front environmental protection corresponds to IPX6 (IEC 60945 exposed, front).
- Compass safe distance: 0.4 m for helm layout planning around magnetic compasses.
- Operating temperature range: -25 C to +55 C for year-round installations.
Installation and setup
Flush mounting uses the supplied gasket and bezel, and the mounting template helps with cutout and fastener placement. An optional bulkhead frame can be used when you want the unit on a vertical surface while keeping a sealed fit.
The lever arrangement can be adapted to your helm layout. The factory-mounted short lever can be replaced with the longer lever in the box, and the control can be reoriented 180 degrees to suit left-hand or right-hand mounting positions.
Route the cable with drip loops and avoid sharp bends so water cannot track into connectors. If the remote is installed outdoors, mount it where water will not sit on the display, and cover it when not in use.
Compatibility and system integration
This remote is used to control autopilot systems from another station on board, and it can also be used to operate the autopilot function in a Simrad MFD. Power and data are supplied via the CAN bus, using NMEA 2000 cabling or a SimNet backbone.
For SimNet networks, a SimNet to Micro-C cable is used for connection. The FU80 is not compatible with an AP24 or AP28 when those systems are operating on VRF (Virtual Rudder Feedback).
