Overview
The Vimar VM08281 is a 2-pole, 2-way push button from the Vimar 8000 series rated 10 A at 250 V~. It has directional arrows and a central OFF position, which makes it easy to send an up or down command and return to a clear neutral stop.
On a boat, this style of switch is commonly used on interior panels where you want positive, momentary-style control of two separate circuits, often as a low-current control for relays or contactors. With an IP40 rating, it belongs in a protected location out of direct spray and washdowns, such as the helm console, cabin, nav station, or inside an electrical panel area.
The body is 45 mm high with a 43 mm depth behind the panel. The front is matt white (RAL 9001) and the device is made from halogen-free thermoplastic.
Key features
- 2-pole, 2-way switching with 6 terminals for wiring two circuits through the same control
- Directional arrows with a central OFF position for clear up or down operation
- Rated 10 A at 250 V~
- Flush-mounted (built-in) device with Engage snap fastening
- IP40 protection level for protected, indoor-style mounting locations
- Halogen-free thermoplastic construction with a matt white finish (RAL 9001)
- Label space/information surface and no integral lighting
Installation and setup
This is a built-in, flush-mounted device that snaps into the appropriate support frame for the Vimar 8000 system. Plan your panel depth before committing, since you need roughly 43 mm of clearance behind the mounting plane, plus room for cable bend radius at the terminals.
Because the switch presents six terminals, take a moment to map your circuits before landing conductors, especially if you are controlling both sides of a circuit (for example, switching two conductors together) or running two separate control lines. De-energize the circuit at the source and protect the run with the correct breaker or fuse for the wiring and the load being controlled.
Compatibility and fit
VM08281 is part of the Vimar 8000 family of modular wiring devices and is intended to be used with matching Vimar 8000 frames and cover plates. The visible color is white (RAL 9001), which matters if you are matching an existing helm or cabin switch panel.
It is not an illuminated switch, so if you need backlit identification at night, plan for external panel lighting or a separate indicator solution.
Use on board
This switch is a good match for boat owners and installers who want consistent Vimar 8000 styling across interior panels while keeping straightforward up or down control. It fits well in wheelhouse and cabin electrical stations, refits where other Vimar 8000 devices are already installed, and any protected console area where water exposure is controlled.
Maintenance and care
For routine cleaning, wipe the face with a lightly damp cloth and avoid aggressive solvents that can haze thermoplastics. If the switch is installed in a vibration-prone area, periodically check that the mounting system remains seated and that wiring connections are secure.
