Overview
The Vimar VMV55208 is a surface-mount IP56 junction box for protecting electrical connections on board when you want a sealed enclosure that still stays serviceable. It measures 240 x 190 x 90 mm and uses smooth, undrilled walls so cable entries can be placed where your wiring run actually lands.
The cover is a blind lid secured with stainless steel screws, and the enclosure is finished in RAL 7035 grey. IP56 protection suits lockers, consoles, and other areas that see spray and washdowns, but it is not meant for locations that can stay submerged.
With a rated insulation voltage (Ui) of 450 V and an operating temperature range of 0 to 60 C, it fits a wide mix of onboard circuits as long as the cable entries are sealed correctly with appropriate glands or conduit fittings.
Key features
- IP56 enclosure for dust exposure and water jets from washdowns and spray
- 240 x 190 x 90 mm surface-mount box for bulkheads, console backs, and overhead panels
- Smooth, undrilled walls for custom cable entry placement
- Blind cover fastened with stainless steel screws for repeat access during service
- Plastic enclosure in RAL 7035 grey for a clean, neutral look in technical spaces
- Rated insulation voltage (Ui): 450 V
- Operating temperature range: 0 to 60 C
Installation and setup
Mark the cable entry points after you have the box positioned, then drill for the glands or conduit fittings that match your cable and routing. The seal is only as good as the entries, so take the time to deburr holes, seat fittings flat, and keep strain off the conductors inside the box.
Mount it on a rigid, reasonably flat surface so the lid seats evenly. In areas that see heavy vibration, leave enough service loop to avoid pulling on terminations when the boat is underway.
Compatibility and fit
This is a surface-mount enclosure for building a protected junction point where you cannot or do not want to recess a box. Before ordering, check the available mounting footprint and the clearance needed to open the cover and route cables without tight bends.
Electrical and system integration
Use it as a protected space for splices, terminal blocks, or small distribution points, and keep separation and labeling consistent with the rest of the vessel. The enclosure rating does not replace good practice inside the box, so match connectors and terminations to the circuit type and environment.
Use on board
This box makes sense for refits and new builds where you need one accessible junction point for wiring runs to deck equipment, lighting, pumps, sensors, or helm accessories, while keeping the connections covered from spray and general grime.
Maintenance and care
After the first few outings, recheck cover screw tightness and inspect cable entries for movement or gaps. If the box lives in a salty, wet area, rinse exterior salt buildup during routine washdowns and open it periodically to confirm connections stay clean and dry.
