Overview
The Vimar VMV55205 is an IP56 surface-mount junction box used to keep electrical splices and terminations protected in onboard spaces that see spray, washdowns, and vibration. It has a nominal size of 120 x 80 x 50 mm, a rated insulation voltage (Ui) of 450 V, and an operating temperature range of 0°C to 60°C.
The housing is plastic in RAL 7035 grey with smooth, undrilled walls and a blind cover held by stainless steel screws. You place cable or conduit entries where they make sense for your run, then seal them with the glands or fittings that match your cable diameter and the exposure level at that location.
IP56 works well for lockers, consoles, hardtops, and under-gunnel spaces, but it is not meant for areas that sit underwater or flood. Keep it above the bilge line and leave enough slack so the cover can be removed later for inspection.

Installation and setup
Mount the box to a flat, rigid surface where it will not be kicked or used as a grab point. When drilling entries, keep enough edge distance for the gland nut or conduit fitting, and deburr the hole so the seal sits cleanly.
Use strain relief on every cable entering the box and keep splices elevated and tidy inside to reduce chafe. If the location sees regular spray, route cables so water drips away from the entries rather than straight into them.
Compatibility and fit
This style of junction box is commonly used to protect inline splices, small terminal blocks, and connector joins for accessories like deck lights, pumps, sensors, and electronics feeds. Check your connector and bend radius against the internal space, especially when using heat-shrink butt connectors or larger multi-core cables.
Because the walls are undrilled, the final fit depends on the glands or conduit system you choose. Match the gland to the cable outer diameter and use fittings that keep the entry sealed in the environment where the box will live.
Use on board
Typical placements include inside a cockpit locker for lighting circuits, behind a helm panel for accessory joins, or under a hardtop where cables transition to the mast or radar arch. It suits refits where cable routes vary from boat to boat and you want control over where every entry lands.
Maintenance and inspection
Open the cover during routine electrical checks and look for loose terminations, corrosion on connectors, or moisture signs. Clean the mating surfaces, then tighten the cover screws evenly so the closure stays consistent over time.
