Overview
The Vimar VM01079 is a spare releasing device for socket outlets with a locking device, specifically models 16213 and 17043. It is a non-powered accessory (0 V nominal voltage, 0 poles) with IP00 protection, made from thermoplastic in red.
On boats, locking outlets are often used where vibration and movement can work a plug loose over time. This part is meant for restoring the release function on those specific outlets so the plug can be disengaged cleanly without prying on the outlet or trim.
Key features
- Compatible with socket outlets with locking device 16213 and 17043.
- Non-electrical spare part (0 V, 0 poles) that does not change the outlet’s electrical rating.
- Straight insert direction for straightforward engagement with the locking mechanism.
- Thermoplastic construction with a red finish for easy spotting in an onboard spares kit.
- IP00 accessory intended for controlled use as a release piece, not as a sealed component.
Compatibility and fit
This releasing device is specific to the locking mechanism used on the listed outlet models. It is not a universal tool for other outlets, and it will not be a match for standard sockets without the dedicated lock.
Installation and use on board
Use the releasing device at the face of the outlet when you need to disengage the lock and remove the plug. Insert it straight as intended by the outlet’s release point, apply gentle pressure to release the latch, then withdraw the plug normally. Avoid forcing the outlet if the plug is under tension or the cable is being pulled sideways.
Where it fits in a marine setup
It is a sensible spare to keep onboard if you run locked outlets for equipment that gets plugged and unplugged often, such as galley appliances, a nav station, a workbench area, or dockside gear that sees frequent movement.
Maintenance and storage
If it is used on deck or in damp areas, rinse off salt residue and store it dry to keep it easy to handle. Replace the releasing device if it becomes cracked or if releasing the outlet starts to require excessive force, since that can put unnecessary stress on the outlet mechanism.
