Overview
The Vimar VM16895 is a light blue flush mounting box for recessed electrical installations where you need a clean, built-in cavity behind a panel, bulkhead, or headliner. It is an IP20 box meant for protected interior locations, so it belongs in areas that stay dry and out of direct spray or washdowns.
The body is halogen-free plastic and sized at 239 mm long by 140 mm wide, with up to 70 mm overall depth and 68 mm inner depth. Cable and conduit routing is handled through break-out openings, with entries that accommodate cable up to 32 mm diameter and conduit sizes 20 mm and 25 mm.
It is intended for one device insert, and it is typically used as the in-wall or in-panel back box behind a finished switch or control point so wiring can be dressed neatly and kept supported.
Key features
- Flush-mounted, rectangular back box for recessed wall or ceiling installations
- Light blue, halogen-free plastic body for safer wiring enclosures in enclosed spaces
- IP20 protection level for controlled interior environments (not a watertight box)
- 239 mm length x 140 mm width; up to 70 mm depth with 68 mm inner depth
- Break-out feed-through openings with 14 inlets, including rear entry
- Supports cable entry up to 32 mm diameter and conduit sizes 20 mm and 25 mm
- Rated for one device insert; cover is not included
Installation and setup
Plan the mounting location around the available recess depth and leave room for bend radius on the conductors so the box does not end up forcing tight turns behind the device. Use the break-out openings you actually need and leave the rest intact to help keep the cavity more closed and to reduce chafe points.
When installing on a boat, keep this box in spaces that stay protected, such as inside a console, behind an interior switch panel, or inside the cabin where it will not see salt mist or washdown water. If the area can get damp from condensation, use sealed terminations and route cables so water cannot run into the box.
Compatibility and fit
This is a recessed mounting box for a single device insert, so confirm your front device support and cover plate are sized for this box format before cutting any openings. Also verify your wiring plan matches the entry style, especially if you intend to bring conduits in from the rear or need multiple side entries.
Use on board
This box is a good match for builds and refits where you want a clean, recessed finish for a small control point or junction behind a finished device, and you have a protected mounting surface such as an interior bulkhead, helm console interior, or under a hardtop liner. It is not the right choice for exposed locations that get hose spray or frequent wet cleaning.
Maintenance and care
After installation, check that cable jackets are not pinched at the break-outs and that any edges are smooth where conductors pass through. During periodic inspections, look for signs of chafe or loose conductors and resecure wiring so vibration does not work connections over time.
