Overview

The Vimar 09983 is a 3-module surface mounting box used to install Vimar Eikon, Idea, and Plana devices when you need an on-surface enclosure instead of cutting into a bulkhead or panel. It is commonly used for tidy switch and socket installations in cabins, nav stations, inside consoles, and other protected interior areas on board.

The box is IP20 and not weatherproof, so it belongs in dry locations out of direct spray. Physical size is 87.10 mm by 122.10 mm with an overall depth of 46.00 mm, and it is built around a 35/45 mm depth format for the device stack.

Color is what changes between the variants. Module capacity, form factor, and core ratings such as IP20 remain the same.

Compatibility and fit

This box is intended for Vimar Eikon, Idea, and Plana devices in a 3-module layout. For Eikon installations, it is suitable only with Eikon Chrome cover plates.

Before ordering, confirm the device series, module count, and the space available behind and around the planned mounting location. The box sits proud of the surface, which helps when you need extra room for cable bends and terminations without opening up the structure behind the panel.

Installation and routing notes

Mount the enclosure to a flat, solid surface and plan cable entry from the rear or side inlets based on how your harness is run. Where you use conduit, size the run for 20 mm or 25 mm so the entry aligns cleanly and the conductors are protected from chafe.

Because the enclosure is not sealable and is not meant for wet areas, keep it inside the accommodation or within protected cabinetry. If the location can see washdowns, salt spray, or heavy condensation, move the installation to a drier space or use an additional weather-rated enclosure upstream.

Use on board

This is a good match for refits and new builds that use Vimar modular devices and need a neat surface-mounted solution where recess mounting is not practical. It also works well when you are adding controls to bulkheads, liners, or furniture panels and want a consistent look across the cabin.
