Overview
The Vimar VM01650 is a TV coaxial cable joint that links two 75 ohm coax cables in a straight in-line connection, with an ivory finish.
On a boat, it is typically used to extend a TV antenna feed, repair a damaged section of coax without replacing the full run, or tidy up a coax connection inside cabinetry, behind a helm panel, or near a TV splitter.
This is a signal-cable coupler, not a powered device. It is meant for 75 ohm coax applications, so it should not be used in 50 ohm radio systems.
Key features
- 75 ohm coaxial cable joint for TV signal cabling
- Straight, in-line coupler format for joining two cable ends
- Plug/socket style joint (plug/bus configuration)
- Ivory color when the connection is in a visible location
- Useful for extending runs or making a clean mid-cable repair in protected interior spaces
Compatibility and fit
Match this joint to 75 ohm coax used for onboard TV and antenna distribution. If your installation uses specific coax connector standards elsewhere in the system, confirm that this joint style matches the cable-end preparation and connection method you are using.
For best signal stability, the coax shield should remain continuous through the joint and the connection should be kept secure so vibration does not work the cable loose over time.
Installation and setup
Plan the splice point so it stays accessible for inspection and is not sitting in a wet bilge, a deck leak path, or a high-heat area near engines or exhaust. Support the cable on both sides of the joint to remove strain from the connection, and route the run away from sharp edges.
After installation, verify reception at the TV or distribution point before closing panels, especially if the joint is being used as part of a troubleshooting repair.
Use cases on board
This joint is a good match for refits where a cabin TV is being moved, a new TV feed is added from an existing splitter, or an older coax run needs a localized repair after chafe. It also helps when you want to extend a cable run to reach a new mounting location without replacing the entire length.
Maintenance and care
Periodically check the connection in areas that see vibration, and re-secure the cable supports if needed. If the joint is in a locker or console that can get damp, inspect for corrosion and address the source of moisture before it impacts signal quality.
