Overview

The Vimar VMV50408 is a surface-mounted consumer unit enclosure with a vertically hinged transparent door and space for 8 modular components in a single row. Installation and setup

Mount the box on a flat bulkhead or panel where you can open the door fully for access. Plan cable entry before drilling out the knockouts, and support incoming conductors so they are not hanging off the terminals, especially on boats that see vibration.

Because the enclosure is IP40, place it in a space that stays dry and out of direct spray. If the mounting area can see condensation, route cables so water cannot track along them into the box.

Compatibility and fit

This enclosure is sized for 8 modular spacings in one row and is intended for standard modular components that mount to the included rail. The 94 mm inner depth helps when you are working with larger conductors and need room for bends and terminations.

There is a provision for fitting an earth terminal block (V51860). If your installation uses a dedicated protective earth grouping inside the enclosure, this keeps those connections together and easy to inspect.

Use on board

It suits refits and compact builds where a recessed consumer unit is not practical. Common placements include inside cabins, behind helm consoles, inside electrical lockers, or in other protected technical spaces where you want devices visible through a clear door.

Maintenance and checks

Periodically open the door and check that terminations remain tight, cables stay supported, and the knockouts have not introduced sharp edges that can chafe insulation. In saltwater environments, keep the enclosure in a sheltered area and wipe away any salt residue that can build up over time.
