Overview
The Vimar VMV50412 is an IP40 surface-mounted consumer unit enclosure with a vertically hinged transparent door and room for 12 (12+1) DIN modules. The compact housing measures 185 mm high, 160 mm wide, and 95 mm deep, which makes it easy to mount on a bulkhead or inside a cabinet when you need a tidy place for modular protection and control devices.
The transparent door lets you check breaker positions and labeling at a glance while keeping fingers and loose gear away from live parts. Because IP40 does not protect against water, it belongs in a dry, protected spot on board such as inside the cabin, behind the nav station, or within an electrical locker that stays out of spray and washdowns.
Key features
- Surface-mounted, single-row enclosure sized for 12 (12+1) modular spacings.
- Vertically hinged transparent door for quick visual checks without opening the box.
- IP40 protection for sheltered interior spaces where you want a barrier against accidental contact and small debris.
- Built-in DIN rail for standard modular devices.
- Top and bottom knockouts to bring cables in cleanly from above or below.
- Grey housing in RAL 7035 to match common electrical installs.
- Prepared to support the V51861 earth terminal block when used in the installation.
Compatibility and fit
This box is meant for standard DIN-rail modular components used in distribution and control panels. Check the total number of modules your breakers or devices require and allow extra room for wiring bends and cable routing through the top or bottom entries. The enclosure is a fixed, one-row format, so layout planning matters if you are grouping multiple circuits.
Installation and setup
Mount the enclosure on a flat, solid surface and leave clearance for the door to swing open. Bring conductors through the knockouts and support wiring so vibration does not pull on terminals. On boats, it helps to route cables with drip loops and keep the unit away from areas that see direct spray, condensation, or frequent washdowns.
Use on board
This enclosure is a practical choice when you are adding a small DIN-module distribution point for a refit or a new circuit group and you want everything covered and organized in a compact footprint. It suits coastal and offshore boats that keep their electrical protection gear inside protected interior spaces rather than exposed locations.
Maintenance and care
Periodically open the door to check for loose conductors, chafe, or signs of moisture. Wipe the door and housing with a lightly damp cloth and mild soap, and avoid solvents that can haze clear plastics. Any re-termination or testing should be done with the system de-energized by qualified personnel.
