Overview
The Vimar VM01974 is a multifunction automated actuator for By-me automation systems that switches up to four AC circuits using 4 change-over relay outputs rated 16 A at 120 to 230 V~. It mounts on a DIN (60715 TH35) rail and takes up 4 modules (17.5 mm each), so it fits neatly in an automation cabinet or electrical distribution panel.
On board, it is typically used to centralize switching for zone lighting, fan-coil control, and motorized blinds or shutters where paired relays are needed for direction control. The electronics are powered from the By-me BUS (29 V) with a typical current draw of 20 mA, and the front panel includes relay status LEDs plus local push-buttons, including a manual mode enable/disable button for service checks.
This unit is IP20 and intended for protected indoor installations. It is suited to marine environments where equipment is kept inside enclosures and has been tested for cyclic salt mist and vibration, with an operating temperature range of -5 to +45 C.
Key features
- 4 x 16 A change-over relay outputs (NC, C, NO) for switching multiple circuits from a single DIN device
- Switching for 120 to 230 V~ 50/60 Hz loads, with practical ratings including 16 A resistive and 3.5 A motors (cos phi 0.6)
- Relay pairs can be grouped for roller shutter or blind motor control (up/down) when configured for paired operation
- By-me BUS powered (29 V) with typical 20 mA draw, keeping control wiring separate from the switched power circuits
- Front LEDs for relay status plus local push-buttons, including a manual mode button for on-panel testing
- DIN rail mounting (60715 TH35), 4-module width for tidy panel layouts
- IP20 protection class for installation inside dry, protected electrical enclosures
Installation and setup
Plan to mount the actuator inside a switchboard, electrical locker, or automation enclosure where it stays dry and protected from washdowns. Allow enough clearance for wiring and strain relief, and label each output at the panel so future troubleshooting is straightforward. Because this unit switches mains voltage, installation is best handled by a qualified marine electrician following local electrical codes and onboard best practices.
Electrical and system integration
The four outputs are intended for 120 to 230 V~ loads, so treat the relay terminals as mains voltage and route wiring accordingly. Overcurrent protection for each switched circuit should be sized appropriately, with protective devices not exceeding 16 A on the relay outputs. If your system includes both SELV and mains circuits, keep them separated at the panel and avoid mixing low-voltage wiring on adjacent outputs that are carrying mains voltage.
Load type matters for relay sizing. This unit supports common onboard AC loads such as resistive heaters up to 16 A, incandescent lighting up to 8 A, electronic transformers up to 6 A, and fluorescent or energy-saving and LED loads up to 0.5 A. For motors, the rating is 3.5 A (cos phi 0.6), which helps when the actuator is used for shutter or blind drives or other small AC motors.
Compatibility and fit
This actuator is part of the By-me automation ecosystem and is compatible with By-me 21509 control units, with configuration support through EasyTool Professional. Before ordering, confirm your vessel has a By-me BUS available at the panel, enough DIN space for a 4-module device, and a wiring plan that matches how your loads are distributed across the four relays.
Use on board
This is a good match for boats that already use By-me automation and want a central DIN-rail switching point for multiple cabin lighting circuits, fan-coil zones, or motorized shading, while keeping the hardware accessible inside an electrical cabinet. It also suits refits where you are reorganizing a panel and need four relay channels in a single device footprint.
Maintenance and care
Once installed, there is little routine maintenance beyond keeping the enclosure dry and checking terminal tightness during periodic electrical inspections. If you are troubleshooting a circuit, the status LEDs and local buttons can help confirm relay operation at the panel without chasing wiring runs through the boat.
