Overview
The Vimar VM01616 is a polarized 2-pole plug with a 90 degree cable entry for 24 V SELV circuits up to 6 A. It matches socket outlets 16301, 14331, 08159, and 10159 and uses one 3 mm pin and one 4 mm pin on 12.4 mm centers, so it only mates the right way around.
On board, this style of right-angle plug is useful where you want the cable to turn immediately and stay close to the surface, such as behind cabin panels, inside consoles, or in tight electrical lockers. The built-in cord-grip helps take strain off the terminations when the boat is vibrating or a portable lead gets tugged.
This is for extra-low-voltage SELV use. Keep it on the correct 24 V system and use it only with the matching polarized outlet pattern, since the pin sizes and spacing are part of the keying.
Key features
- 2-pole polarized plug rated 6 A at 24 V SELV for low-voltage circuits
- 90 degree cable entry to keep the plug and cable run low-profile in confined spaces
- Integrated cord-grip to reduce pull on the internal connections
- One 3 mm pin and one 4 mm pin with 12.4 mm center spacing for keyed, repeatable connection
- Compatible with socket outlets 16301, 14331, 08159, and 10159
- Ivory finish to blend with matching Vimar installations
Compatibility and fit
Confirm the outlet you are mating to is one of the listed compatible models and that it is part of a 24 V SELV installation. The mixed pin diameters and 12.4 mm spacing are specific to this polarized format, so it will not interchange with standard 2-pin connectors.
Because the cable exits at 90 degrees, check clearance to the side of the outlet as well as behind it. This is especially helpful on bulkheads and furniture panels where a straight plug would force a tight bend in the cable.
Installation and setup
Terminate the conductors securely, then tighten the cord-grip so the cable jacket is clamped and strain is not carried by the electrical connections. After assembly, verify polarity and do a quick pull-check to confirm the cord-grip is holding before putting the lead into regular service.
On a boat, protect the circuit with appropriate overcurrent protection for the wiring and load, and route the cable so it is not chafing on fiberglass edges or fasteners.
Use cases on board
This plug makes sense for boats that already use the Vimar polarized 24 V outlet system for low-voltage accessory or signal connections, especially where a portable lead needs a secure, keyed connection. It is also a good match for refits and service work where you are replacing a worn plug and need the same pin format and outlet compatibility.
Maintenance and care
Periodically inspect the cord-grip for tightness and look for any discoloration or corrosion on the pins. If the plug has been exposed to salt spray, disconnect it and let it dry fully before reuse, and keep it in a protected location when not in service.
