Overview
The Vimar VM08490 is a special blank module for the Vimar 8000 traditional wiring device system, used to close off an unused module position in a plate or support. It is a passive insert (nominal voltage 0 V) with a matt white finish similar to RAL 9001, and it sits flush once the faceplate is fitted.
On a boat this is a straightforward way to keep a switch bank or console panel looking finished after changes, or to reserve a space for a future device without leaving an open hole behind the plate. The body is halogen-free thermoplastic and includes a label surface for clear circuit marking.
Key features
- Special blank module format for Vimar 8000 series traditional wiring device plates and supports
- Passive insert with nominal voltage 0 V
- Built-in mounting style with claw fastening for a secure hold in the support
- Halogen-free thermoplastic construction with untreated surface
- Matt white color, similar to RAL 9001
- Device height 45.00 mm and device depth 20.50 mm for clearance planning behind panels
- Label space for circuit identification on multi-gang plates
Compatibility and fit
This module is intended for the Vimar 8000 series supports and plates that accept the special-module format. Before ordering, confirm the series on your existing frames and that the open position you want to fill is a special-module opening rather than a different modular standard.
The 20.50 mm device depth is helpful to keep in mind for shallow mounting locations such as helm pods, cabin liners, and instrument panels where wiring harnesses already compete for space.
Installation and setup
It installs as a built-in module and locks into the support using claw fastening. Once it is seated, the plate is fitted as normal so the front face stays flush and clean.
Use on board
Common placements include helm switch panels, cabin and head switchbanks, and interior consoles where unused cutouts can catch fingers or allow dirt and moisture to migrate into the wiring cavity. It also helps keep a consistent layout when you are mixing switches, outlets, and fillers across the same plate.
This is a good match for refit electricians and owners standardizing on Vimar 8000 hardware who need to tidy up spare module positions while keeping the option to expand later.
Maintenance and care
The matt thermoplastic surface can be wiped with a damp cloth and a mild cleaner. Avoid abrasive pads that can mark the finish and make labels harder to read.
