Overview
The Garmin Navionics+ NSAE016R is an electronic chart region for Japan lakes and coastal waters that runs on compatible Garmin chartplotters. Coverage includes the coasts of Japan from the Yaeyama Islands and Okinawa up to Aniva Bay and Kunashir Island, plus coastal coverage of South Korea from Busan to Deoksan-ri, along with detailed inland coverage for many major lakes such as Inawashiro, Kussharo, Ogawara, Onuma, Shikotsu, Shinji, Towada, and Toyako.
You get a one-year subscription that unlocks daily chart updates and lets you download additional chart content during that period. Depth range shading can be set up with up to 10 shaded ranges, which helps when you want the plotter to call out a target depth band for running or fishing.
Auto Guidance+ is available on compatible systems to calculate a suggested dock-to-dock path using your selected depth and overhead clearance, but it is a planning tool and it does not replace safe navigation practices on the water.

Variants
This chart region is offered in multiple configurations, with two mapping versions and two delivery formats.
The version determines whether you are getting the standard Garmin Navionics+ feature set or the expanded Garmin Navionics Vision+ feature set with additional visual layers. The format determines whether the charts arrive on a card or are provided as a download that you load to a memory card using Garmin Express.
- 010-C1215-20: Version Garmin Navionics+; Format microSD/SD. This arrives on removable media that installs by inserting the card into the chartplotter.
- 010-D1817-20: Version Garmin Navionics+; Format Download. This is delivered as a download and is loaded onto a compatible microSD/SD card using Garmin Express.
- 010-C1215-00: Version Garmin Navionics Vision+; Format microSD/SD. This arrives on removable media and adds premium visual layers on supported chartplotters.
- 010-D1817-00: Version Garmin Navionics Vision+; Format Download. This is delivered as a download and is loaded onto a compatible microSD/SD card using Garmin Express, with Vision+ visual layers available where supported.
Compatibility and fit
These charts are intended for compatible Garmin chartplotters that support Garmin Navionics+ and Garmin Navionics Vision+ cartography. Confirm your unit supports the chart format you are buying and that you have an available card slot that matches the media you plan to use.
Some subscription features and downloadable layers require pairing with the ActiveCaptain app and keeping the chartplotter connected during the update process.
Installation and setup
For microSD/SD versions, insert the card into the chartplotter and follow the on-screen prompts to access the map layers. To enable subscription features and daily updates, activate the included subscription and update through the ActiveCaptain workflow.
For download versions, use Garmin Express to download the region and write it to a compatible memory card. Plan on doing the initial download and larger updates on a reliable internet connection before a trip.
Use on board
This region makes sense for boaters running coastal passages in Japan, hopping between islands, or navigating into marinas and ports where tighter chart detail matters. It is also a good match for anglers and lake boaters who want depth shading and contour-focused views to help spot structure changes without cluttering the screen.
