Overview
The Garmin USB-A Charging/Data Cable is a USB-A charging and data cable for compatible Garmin wearables, including fenix 5 and Forerunner 935. Plug it into a computer USB port to recharge the device and transfer data to and from your computer. It is available in 0.5 m and 1 m lengths.
On a boat, it is a practical spare to keep at the nav station or in a go-bag for topping up a watch from a laptop, a helm USB outlet, or a USB power bank. It also pairs with an optional AC adapter (sold separately) when you have shore power available.
Key features
- Charges compatible Garmin wearables and supports data transfer when connected to a computer USB port
- USB-A connection for common onboard USB outlets, laptops, and power banks
- Two cable lengths available to match tight consoles or longer reaches to a shelf or nav table
- Works with an optional AC adapter (sold separately) for wall power charging
- Useful as a spare cable to leave on board so your wearable stays powered for long days on the water
Variants
This cable is offered in multiple lengths to suit different mounting and charging locations on board.
The difference between variants is the cable length, which changes how much reach and slack you have between the USB port and the device.
- 010-12491-01: Length 0.5 m. A good fit when the USB port is close and you want less cable to manage around a helm or laptop.
- 010-12983-00: Length 1 m. Gives extra reach when the USB outlet is set back in a console, under a dash, or at a nav table.
Compatibility and fit
This is a wearable charging and data cable, not a marine network or sonar cable. It is intended for compatible Garmin devices that use this charging/data connector style, including fenix 5 and Forerunner 935.
If you are matching by fit, compare the connector end to your device charging contacts before ordering, especially if you are stocking a shared cable for multiple crew devices.
Installation and setup
Connect the device end to your compatible Garmin wearable, then plug the USB-A end into a computer for charging and data transfer. For charging from onboard power, use a standard USB-A outlet or a USB power adapter that supplies a USB port.
Keep the charging contacts clean and avoid connecting or charging when the contacts are wet or salty. If the cable gets salt spray, a quick fresh-water wipe followed by drying helps prevent buildup on the contacts.
Use on board
This cable is a good match for boaters who rely on a Garmin watch during long runs and want a dedicated spare on the vessel. It also suits crews who sync activities at the nav station after a day on the water without digging through personal chargers.
Route the cable so it is not pinched by hatches or bent sharply at the ends, and keep the connected device in a dry spot while charging.
