Overview

The Raymarine Wired Masthead Wind Transducer is a masthead wind speed and direction sensor for sailing vessels and powerboats. It is available as a 300 mm short-arm model with a 30 m cable or a 600 mm long-arm model with a 50 m cable, so the cable run and sensor position can be matched to the mast height and the airflow around the rig.

The transducer measures apparent wind speed and direction at the masthead. With compatible Raymarine instruments and related sensors such as boat speed and compass heading, the system can calculate true wind data for sail trim, wind-angle awareness, and condition monitoring during cruising or performance sailing.

Construction uses anodized aluminum and UV-stabilized plastic, which matters for a sensor that lives above deck in sun, spray, and vibration. It works with Raymarine i60 Wind, iTC-5, ST60+ and ST60 series systems, making it a practical fit for compatible Raymarine wind installations.

Variants

This transducer range is offered in short-arm and long-arm configurations with different cable lengths.

The wind-vane function and Raymarine system compatibility remain consistent across the two options; the arm length and supplied cable length are the key fit differences.

• E22078: Short arm, 300 mm arm length, 30 m cable length. The shorter arm keeps the sensor package more compact and fits many cruising sailboat and powerboat installations where the cable run does not exceed 30 m.
• E22079: Long arm, 600 mm arm length, 50 m cable length. The longer arm places the vane farther from sail updraft and disturbed air, and the 50 m cable suits taller rigs or longer cable routes.

Installation and fit

The masthead location should face forward, sit on a horizontal surface, and leave the vane and cups free to spin without interference. A high position clear of antennas, lights, rigging hardware, and other airflow obstructions helps the sensor read cleaner wind at the top of the rig.

The cable can be routed from the rear of the base or underneath the base, depending on the masthead layout. Before stepping the mast or starting the run, confirm the cable path from the masthead to the display, junction box, or converter location so there is enough length for service loops and strain relief.

Electrical and system integration

This is a wired masthead transducer, not a complete wind instrument by itself. Plan the installation around a compatible Raymarine wind display or converter module, and confirm the existing instrument system before ordering a replacement or adding wind data to a boat that does not already have the required display or converter.

Use cases on board

The 300 mm version works well for cruising boats and powerboats where a lower profile arm and a 30 m cable are enough for the installation. The 600 mm version fits performance sailing boats or rigs where moving the sensor farther from sail-driven airflow helps place the vane in cleaner air.
