Overview
The Raymarine E70150 is an i60 Wind System with a masthead wind vane transducer for sailboats that need clear wind angle and wind speed data at the helm or nav station. It combines an analogue wind angle needle with a digital LCD readout, so a sailor can read shifts quickly while trimming sails, steering to apparent wind, or checking changing conditions on a passage.
The i60 Wind display runs on a 12 V DC supply with a 10 V DC to 16 V DC operating range. It calculates apparent and true wind speed and angle, with true wind functions dependent on supporting boat data such as speed and heading on the network. The display measures 110 mm wide, 115 mm high, and 44 mm deep, which also helps when replacing older Raymarine ST60+ style instrument layouts.
For system integration, the unit includes SeaTalkng connections that are compatible with SeaTalk and can be adapted into NMEA 2000 networks. Its IPX6 waterproof rating suits exposed cockpit installations where spray, washdowns, and wet-weather sailing are part of normal use.
Key features
- Analogue needle display shows relative wind angle from 000 degrees to 180 degrees for quick sail-trim reference.
- Digital LCD readout supports wind speed, Beaufort, maximum wind, VMG, and tack angle information.
- Calculates apparent and true wind speed and angle when the required supporting data is available on the system.
- SeaTalkng connectivity supports integration with Raymarine instruments, autopilots, and compatible marine networks.
- Built-in wind transducer interface allows the masthead wind vane to connect directly to the display.
- 12 V DC operation with low power draw, rated at less than 1 W typical for the display only and up to 2.4 W with a transducer connected.
- IPX6 waterproof rating helps the instrument handle cockpit spray and regular wet deck use.
- Red backlighting and a high-contrast display make the wind data easier to read during night watches or low-light sailing.
Installation and setup
The E70150 suits new installations as well as refits where a sailor wants a dedicated wind instrument rather than relying only on a multifunction display. The compact 110 mm by 115 mm face fits cleanly into many cockpit panels and pedestal pods, and the 44 mm depth helps in locations where space behind the panel is limited.
The masthead transducer should be mounted where it can read clean airflow above the rig. Correct cable routing and strain relief are important on sailboats because mast wiring is exposed to movement, vibration, and service work at the mast base. The display can operate as a master with its own wind transducer or as part of a broader Raymarine instrument network.
Compatibility and system integration
This wind system is a strong match for cruising and racing sailboats that already use Raymarine SeaTalkng, SeaTalk, or compatible NMEA 2000 equipment. It can share wind data with other instruments and navigation equipment, and it can be useful alongside an autopilot when wind-based sailing data is part of the setup.
For true wind calculations, the network must supply the needed supporting data, such as boat speed and heading. On a simple installation, it still gives practical apparent wind speed and angle data from the masthead vane, which is often the most-used information when trimming sails or steering by wind.
Use on board
The i60 Wind format works well for sailors who prefer a dedicated display that can be read at a glance from the helm. The analogue needle gives an immediate sense of wind angle, while the digital readout adds the numbers needed for sail changes, reefing decisions, close-hauled work, and performance checks.
It is also useful on well-equipped cruising and fishing powerboats where wind direction and speed help with docking, anchoring, drift planning, and weather awareness. The combination of cockpit-friendly waterproofing, low power use, and network connectivity makes it practical for boats that spend long days underway or at anchor.
