Overview
The Vimar Plana Series is a range of RJ45 Netsafe outlets for structured data cabling in Plana installations. Across the range, the outlets use an RJ45 8(8) connection, T568A/B universal wiring, and support round cable. Versions are available in Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6A, with both UTP and FTP configurations depending on the shielding scheme required on board.
This is the kind of outlet used when a boat needs a fixed network point at a nav station, cabin desk, saloon panel, helm console, or service area with a Plana device layout. Some versions use 110-type insulation-piercing terminals, while others use insulation-piercing terminals without tool use, so the termination style can be matched to the installer’s method and the cabling standard already in the vessel.
Key features
- RJ45 8(8) outlet format for structured data and telecommunication cabling
- T568A/B universal wiring across the range
- Category options include Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6A
- UTP and FTP versions are available to match unshielded or shielded cable layouts
- Termination options vary by model between 110-type insulation-piercing terminals and insulation-piercing terminals without tool use
- Suitable for round cable
- Finish options include white and silver, with antibacterial white versions on selected Cat6 models
Variants
This range changes by cable category, shielding, termination style, and finish. Depending on the version, the outlet is offered as Cat5e, Cat6, or Cat6A, as UTP or FTP, and with either 110-type termination or insulation-piercing terminals without tool use.
Finish options include white and silver, with antibacterial white versions on selected Cat6 models. That gives the same Plana look across the boat while leaving room to match the outlet to the network specification and cabling approach used in each area.
Compatibility and fit
These inserts are part of the Vimar Plana device family, so fit depends on the Plana support and cover plate arrangement already specified for the panel. In practice, this type of flush data outlet is better suited to protected interior positions than exposed locations, since it is intended for built-in network points rather than sealed deck connections.
For onboard integration, the outlet category should match the required link performance, and FTP versions should stay with shielded cable runs while UTP versions should stay with unshielded runs. That matters on boats using routers, access points, onboard PCs, IP cameras, network printers, or Ethernet-linked navigation and entertainment equipment.
Installation and setup
Termination choice changes by version. The 110 models use 110-type insulation-piercing terminals, while the other models use insulation-piercing terminals without tool use. All versions use T568A/B universal wiring, which helps when the boat’s patching plan or existing panel work is already standardized around one pinout.
This range is a good match for refits and new builds that already use Plana hardware and want the network outlet to match the rest of the switch and socket line. The silver finish suits more contemporary interiors, the white finish blends into standard cabin trims, and the antibacterial white options make sense in spaces where touch points are shared more often.
